Dr put me on meds for hypothyroidism

Recommended Posts

Ok. so today i went to my final endorinology appt today.. The Dr went over my bloodwork. he said it was all perfect. Then 5 seconds later said i have a little hypothyroidism and he was giving me a prescription. He gave me a copy of my blood work results. My TSH, T3,T4 levels are all "within range". now i am REALLY confused. normal range is .4-4.5 mine is 1.91 could it be because my number is on the lower side of that range? but it's still considered normal. Dr told me the pill would help me lose weight and give me energy.. which is awesome ...but my results say something different. i dont want to screw up my system. i feel weird questioning the dr. cause he knows better than me. but does anyone know why he would give me meds for hypothyroidism is my results were normal???

thanks!

The range IS usually up to 5, but if a doctor puts someone on thyroid medication, they shoot for a range of 0.5-1.5 to be considered therapeutic on meds, so many doctors will treat you if you're above 1.5, even though it's technically "normal." If you don't want to take it, you should talk to your doctor, but it might help a little! Who knows! :smile2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
