I had my surgery on Oct.8, 2009. I have hardly had any good days since then. Right after my surgery my depression kicked in badly and have been battling that along with anxiety. I am scared to eat and just seem to be nervous about everything. I am not even close to the same person I was just before surgery. I am miserable right now. Getting ready to go xmas shopping and am excited to go, but almost don't feel like shopping or even thinking about xmas. This is not like me I am a purpose who loves to shop, loves life, and especially loves xmas. If anyone can give me some advice I would really appreciate it.

Girl go Christmas shopping and have a blast!! You are doing better than you think. Are you feeling any better at all? I am still thinking about you and praying for you. Once you get out of the house and into the stores it will be great. Cheri

What do you think has caused you to become depressed and anxious since surgery? You didn't identify one specific thing...can you elaborate more on what specifically is going on? When you are anxious, what kinds of thoughts do you have? Are there certain times of day that you are more depressed? Basically, I was going to write something back to you to give you some thoughts, but I don't quite understand what is going on....if you give more information, my thoughts might make more sense.

Regardless, I understand feeling depressed/anxious since surgery. For me, I struggled most with anxiety....there are so many "rules" and I was feeling like a failure a lot of the time. Also, bandster hell lasted at least 2 months for me (I might just be coming out of it....this past week since my second fill has been MUCH better), and I had so much physical pain for those few months between port soreness and hunger, I WAS GOING CRAZY!

Anyway, can you give us more information so we might be able to give you better feedback??

A lot of people get depressed after surgery. I got really depressed after my last surgery and was completely not like myself. It really sucks but it will pass, just hang in there and try to find ways to cheer yourself up. Going shopping is a great idea. Find some funny movies to watch and stuff like that too. It gets better!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
