What we need in this country is to level the playing field if we want people to actually all have the same advantages: education, health, safety, etc. Because right now there is certainly not a level playing field! And while the rich keep getting richer, trust me, the poor keep getting poorer.

Those of you who think that it is perfectly fine for the government to subsidize huge conglomerate corporations and to give them tax breaks, and to give tax advantages to the wealthy over anyone else, like the middle class and poor, you are completely screwed up. You create a bigger and bigger segment of the population into poor people and the demand for the "public dole" becomes greater.

We shouldn't be in the business of keeping people down with free stuff. But how are you going to figure out a sensible and fair plan if all you do is go around bellyaching about not wanting to give people hand outs? And if you support giving governmental advantages primarily to the people who are wealthy, you're part of the bigger problem.

Come up with a plan. If you don't want your government helping people whom you consider to be capable and able to work, then do something about it.

I am sick to death of people being so obsessed with people "on the dole" but who are only willing to bitch about it - not actually be part of the solution.

We had an exchange student from Norway, he told us that in Norway when someone requires aid they are given a proficiency test, they are then given training in the field that they scored the highest in. They are required to work on the program and do well to continue to receive funds. After they are retrained to reenter the workforce they have a certain amount of time to find employment. This keeps the system moving. No lifetime entitlement. (Which, by the way, I don't think people want anyway.) Why cant we do some thing like this? It's SOCIALISM, oh my god the dreaded SOCIALISM, the worst thing ever! Run! Fire! Socialism!

Leigha, I agree.

Republicans have done a number on us. Because of their campaigns to stay in control of the wealth in this country, they have made the terms "government" "universal health care" and "assistance" dirty words. So now, there are no questions asked. No remedies to be discovered that utilize any of those words. At this point, everyone has mental barriers so deeply ingrained that they refuse to consider anything that might possibly cause change and move us to a better system for the majority of people.

And by the way, I think we should all have guns issued to us at age 18 and with them should be required classes on gun safety and testing on our proficiency of gun use. When we're all armed, the nut jobs would have to be afraid. Including some of the whack jobs in the NRA.

In this mornings Pittsburgh Tribune Review there is an article about the stimulus(this is known as a republican leaning paper). "California governor rips GOP hypocrites" speaking on ABCs this week,Schwarzeneger accused reps. of being hypocrites for bad mouthing the recovery act championed by pres. Obama while eagerly accepting stimulus funds for projects in their states. He said "I find it interesting that you have reps. running around pushing back on the stimulus money and saying it doesnt create any new jobs, and then they go out and do photo ops and they are posing with the big check and they say "isnt this great" he said look what the kind of money I provide here for the state, and this has created 10,000 new jobs. It doesnt match up". "I have been the first governor of the republican governors to come out and support the stimulus money. Anyone who says that it hasnt created jobs, they should talk to the 150,000 people that have been getting jobs in California". Arnold hasnt supported anything Obama until this stimulus, in fact hes always gone out of his way to put Obama down until now. WHATS THAT TELL YOU? Most people(except reps.) knew it wasnt going to happen overnight. Here we are, reps. jumping aboard. James Baker was on Farid Zakaria(not sure of the spelling), He did the usual rep. put down of everything Obama. He didnt have answers when Farid asked him for reps. plan. He did the usual, babble about something totally different, hoped Farid forgot what he asked! Come on you republicans, admit it the signs point to yes, the stimulus is starting to work.

Loserbob, I have posted about the republican hypocrisy with regard to the stimulus over and over again on the rep. hypocrisy thread I started. I named names and put it out there but there is no defense of this blatant hypocrisy.

And people can say that the stimulus hasn't worked but the facts prove differently and the analyses by the economic experts prove differently. But that doesn't sway those who just keep repeating lies.

Yesterday(Sunday) I tried to get into 3 different resturaunts, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Texas Roadhouse. I finally settled on Bob Evans because the other 3 had average wait times of 70-90 minutes. People are spending money. The stockmarket is up a couple thousand since Obama came to office, and peoples retirement funds are recovering alot faster than anyone expected. Imagine,at the end of Obamas "terms" 1-Economy back to pre- recession highs. 2-Afghanistan stabilizing. 3-Bushs quagmire in Iraq ended with stable democratic gov. in place. 4-Healthcare reform. All without any help from reps. May not even be a rep. party at that point!!!

Bjean, the other day the NRA called me to ask my opinion on the law(Pennsylvania, Im not sure if its other states or not)which requires you to wait a certain period of time,(Background check)before you can buy a handgun. I told them I approve of the law and they hung up on me. Typical!

Lbob, even home sales have risen a tiny bit and new home starts too. Not by much, but it isn't going the bad direction, at last.

Yeah, the NRA would like for it to be legal for all of us to own ballistic missiles without a waiting period.

There are those who say the public option is not popular. I disagree and this poll of key states shows I am right:

Here’s a rundown, sent over by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, which commissioned the polls:

* In Nevada, only 34% support the Senate bill, while 56% support the public option.

* In Illinois, only 37% support the Senate bill, while 68% support the public option.

* In Washington State, only 38% support the Senate bill, while 65% support the public option.

* In Missouri, only 33% support the Senate bill, while 57% support the public option.

* In Virginia, only 36% support the Senate bill, while 61% support the public option.

* In Iowa, only 35% support the Senate bill, while 62% support the public option.

*In Minnesota, only 35% support the Senate bill, while 62% support the public option.

* In Colorado, only 32% support the Senate bill, while 58% support the public option.

Just like the $400. check you'll get back from the IRS just for working in 2009, noone is going to refuse it. It is up to the Federal government to STOP handing out the money. Not up to the people or the States to refuse to spend it. Come On!!! Whose going to get a check in tha mail for nothing and send it right back?! Nobody. The government knows this and so does everybody in this country! The way to stop government spending is to stop handing out the money.

The gov. created a false appearance of job pickup by creating 'some', and the emphasis is on 'some, TEMPORARY government jobs. They will end when the money runs out. Then we will be right back where we were.

Ya, Arnold Schwarzeneger(REP.) is lieing about job growth in California to help Obama. Come on Patty, you can do better than that. Where did you pull that from anyway? What does that have to do with the issue we are discussung here, NOTHING as usual. Typical rep. response, babble on about a totally different subject. Besides, $400.00, thats another day I can sit on my ass(ok, big ass, or I wouldnt be on this sight)and collect gov. handout.

It has to do with this: When money gets handed to you for free, human nature says "take it."

The government is the one with the problem and needs to be the ones to stop handing it out. The states (republicans) are not the ones with the problem for taking it.

1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
