Banded Oct 30

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My name is Karen. I was banded on Oct 30. I started my 2nd week of liquids, yesterday. No longer have to be clear. Amazing difference. I enjoy the "Campbells" Soup in the box. It is very tasting and most are pureed just right. Also, I found a couple othr things that take the edge off. I am allowed hard candies. I have been using "dumdum" suckers at night. I had BMI of 43 in April. I was one of the 6 month dieters before I could be approved by my insurance. I am down to 202 this morning and a BMI of 35.3. I hope to meet others who had there surgery recently and we can keep each other on track..

Oh, by the way, have others had trouble sleeping? I seem to wake up real early, and can't always go back to sleep.

Thanks, Karen

Hi Karen. Congrats on being banded! It sounds like you are doing great so far! Just keep in mind that suckers have sugar unless you are getting sugar free and some calories. If you decide to continue eating them, you will want to add the calories to your daily food intake. Right now, the plan is to worry about healing. I have been an insomniac all my life anyway so I didn't notice a difference with the band but maybe someone else can answer that one for you.

Thanks for responding. I think right now, my intake of calories is so low, that the amount I get from the suckers is okay. I will watch though when I am on real food. Thanks...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
