protein shakes =nasty

Recommended Posts

So I'm having a really hard time with these things. I've never been really into "sweets" as it is, and now I feel like i"m in sweets overload. I'm only day 1 of full liquids, and it's been a real struggle to get down the few shakes I"ve had. I can't wait for pureed stage when everything doesn't have to be "chocalate" or "berry"

Yuck!

I'm day 5 post op but even prior to surgery I was using a Protein Shake that I really liked. It's EAS Carb Control and it has 110 cals and 17 grams Protein. I've also found a power shot that I REALLY like. It's same cals and has 25 grams protein. Tastes like a grape popcicle. I've only been able to do about 1 to 2 oz of liquid every hour or so. As far a pureed food. Went a bought my stick hand mixer and am looking forward to some pureed veggies as well as black Beans. I'm not big on V8 juice. Tried the fruit fusions and didn't like them at all.

Ugh, I have a sweet tooth and I still cant believe people can down so many of these shakes- I agree they're very sweet.

I've tried a couple of the el cheapo diet shakes too - there's ones here called Celebrity Slim and Tony Ferguson, shakes and bars and stuff - disgustingly sweet. You'd go mad on a diet like that.

If I feel like something shakelike, I vastly prefer to blend an egg, some skim milk and a banana, with some vanilla essence. Much much much less sweet.

They can definitely be over sweet at times. Are you also getting in your 64 ounces of other liquids? That does help. I always chase my morning shake with a tea. It really helps cut down. You could also make a glass of regular liquid along with the shake and drink them together. In other words take a couple of drinks of the shake then a couple of drinks of Water or tea or whatever you choose. It will help that.

That's the one I get. It's not as sweet. Love it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
