I have the same thoughts. I am very pre-op. Have not even had my consult yet. But, when I was talking about doing the surgery with my husband (who is also over weight) as a thought on why I maybe should not get the surgery he said, "won't you miss, like, not being able to gulp down a big glass of Water or something?" I said, I think I am willing to give up gulping if it means I will be leaner and healthier. We are an overweight family. I don't know how "thin" people think about food. I notice my 11y/o scarffing down food and it worries me. I wonder if I will learn to let go of old "fat" ways of thinking and eating and be able to learn and teach my family the new "thin" way of thinking and eating.

I went grocery shopping with my mom today and discovered that grocery shopping is going to be my husband's new job at least for the next several months (fortunately, he likes to grocery shop and sticks to the list). We no sooner walked in the door of the store than the smells from the deli and hot food center hit us in the face. Now, I'm four days post op and I haven't been hungry or craving at all, but those smells hit me and my mouth began to salivate regardless.

And of course this is the reason you can smell that stuff when you go into the store. They do the same thing at Movie theatres with the popcorn.< /span>

I kept chanting to myself all morning, "These smells are not natural. They're synthetic flavoring enhancement chemicals." It kind of helps put things in perspective. A bit like that add on tv where the person walks into a fast food place and orders "one muffin top and a side of belly fat". I'm trying to look at food in the same way.

Whatever works is what we have to do. One time, I wanted a little popcorn and since I was home alone, I popped some, and then poured Water over the part I did not want to eat. It worked and I kept it under control.

Very nice tactic! You might also try those little 100 calorie individual serving popcorn bags. I started buying those and discovered they were perfect for one...although with restriction, they're probably perfect for both me and my husband.

I did and do miss food and the full mouth and belly feeling. However, it has gotten better. I am a month out and have been very cranky. I think I am de-toxing from all the crap. Other than Melba Toast, i have not had a bread like substance since October 4th. I have had 1 fill and have some restriction, but i could keep eating more than my 1/2 cup. There is a mourning period. Friends already have stopped inviting me over and out b/c "I have food issues". I feel like saying, "I am working on my food issues,(and others) not you!". One friend said she would never kill herself like I ma to be thin. I said but I didn't want to kill myself being fat either. I always keep it about me when I shoot back, so as not to be preachy. But I digress........It gets better as we work through our sick relationship with food. My therapist has helped a lot with this. Hang in there.

I have noticed reading through these forums that many have to completely rearrange their friendships after WLS. It sort of reminds me of when my DH had to quit drinking. His friends weren't his friends any more. He had to completely rearrange his relationships. It is interesting, but sometimes we don't need friends like the one who lashed out at you. Best of luck with that. :)

It is like when AA or NA suggest you limit your socialization to those from "group". My BFF is the one said the thing about killing myself, I think she is having to look at herself b/c of my surgery. Her doc has already told her she has to lose. She is heavier than me too. I hope she stops using her insecurity/problem on me!

Hopefully this helps. Two years ago, my daughter called me and said she was going to get banded. I almost fell over. First of all, I did not think she was that much overweight, but she told me she was 100lbs over where she wanted to be. Initially, I thought she was crazy spending that kind of money on that. Later, I had to come to terms with my feelings and I realized I was jealous of her. After she lost 90lbs, I just suddenly decided that I could do it too. It was like a sudden feeling of total peace spilled all over me. Within a week I had my own surgery date, and I am currently 7 weeks post op. I feel I did the right thing, and I have since discussed all of this with my daughter. She is and has always been one of my closest friends so it is really good now. We are taking a trip over Thanksgiving because her Brother is coming back from Afghanistan. We are having so much fun talking about it and planning our little tiny meals together. Life is good!!!:)

Thanks. I suspect jealousy has a lot to do with it. Though it sounds self centered to think someone is jealous of me. Glad your brother will be home soon. Enjoy!

I eat everything, just cant eat alot of it. The band isnt a death sentence. I've lost 82 lbs since Last October and I, as well as everyone else can eat anything. Certaind things might not go down so well, but you learn as you go. :drool:Good luck.

Hi there, I am 3 days in to my pre op diet, op is on Nov 19th. I am soooo hungry and every thought of food, sight of food, smell of food.. EVERYTHING is difficult to deal with. Its making me wonder if, after the band is fitted, i will be missing food and longing for food or feeling sad about the food i can no longer eat? I will not change my mind, i just want to be prepared.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
