Okay people, what's with losing a shoe size?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was reading over some of the posts on this site and some bandsters have stated they lost a shoe size. What's that about?? Come on folks, here we are replacing our clothes and now shoes too? Does this happen to everyone? I tried looking this up on the internet and can't find a reason a person would lose a shoe size.

Not that I am complaining...there's always a good excuse for a new pair of shoes, but I am really curious as to this phenomen.

Since I have lost a lot of weight (61 pounds in 61 days) I am replacing some of my old clothes and can now wear heels for the first time in years! So, here I am happy as a clam buying some new heels and then I read my feet may shrink and I may need new shoes again.

So, my friends, anyone lose a shoe size? Can anyone tell me why this happens? (I could see losing width in your feet due to less weight on the feet, but the actual inches in your feet--why?):)

I went from a 9 W to an 8 1/2 M so I guess they can shrink!! Just don't buy any expensive designer shoes yet!

Hi,

I too am amazed by this! I am a witness that when you lose weight...Feet can lose too! I used to be a good 8 1/2M all through college...As I started to gain weight...So did my feet. I moved up to a 9M. When I had my DD in 2003, my feet grew to be a whopping 10M. I was so disappointed because I had to get rid of some of my high dollar shoes and some old favorites. The worst part was I gave some of them to my cousin and had to watch her wear them! And now, the same thing is happening with my clothes. I am glad I am losing weight. But not happy that my clothes are too big and I feel like I look frumpy! I have not bought more clothes because I know they too will be temporary. I did finally break down and purchase 2 pairs of jeans the other day....My old ones were getting way too big! Wow, skinny jeans from the JR's Department! :)

I just had another DD in August 2008 and have since lost approx 55lbs. I am now back to wearing a 9 and some 9 1/2's. So, feet gain and lose too! I hope they get back to the solid 9M.

Keep us posted on the incredible shrinking feet......:cursing:

I have lost a shoe size, let me start off by saying that when I got married (24yrs ago) I had a size 6 1/2. Then I had 4 kiddos in 6 years. My foot grew to a size 8! I hated it....anyway, now I am a size 7. Which makes me very happy! I love shoes! And I love buying shoes! So, since my old ones don't fit anymore, I buy more :w00t: The only thing I can figure out is that my foot isnt as wide and not as chubby as they were....

i think it has to do with your weight. the more you weigh the more your feet have to carry, so there for your feet can get wider they dont grow longer just wider. im not a doctor or anything but that is what i think.

As a young adult, I wore a size 7. Through the years of weight gains, I moved up to a size 8 1/2 and was fast headed for a size 9. Now my shoes are getting loose, so I guess I'll be down sizing soon. I look forward to a size 7 again. So, in answer to your question, your shoe size does change.

I agree. It's actually very logical.

Your feet are at the bottom of your body and they carry the burden of your weight. It's only reasonable to assume that your feet will be more squooshed the heavier you are and then when you lose the weight, they burden is a lot less.

I thought about that when I noticed how much tighter my sneakers were and how much heavier my steps were.

I wouldnt have even said I had fat feet or hands, but I was amazed by how much weight I lost there. I was always a size 10, and I still am, but now I can shove my feet into all sorts of glamorous, terrible for your feet and back shoes, whereas before, I just found things like that way too uncomfortable. And one one foot, I have to put heel grips in everythign or else they slip on the heel. So my feet defintely did shrink.

I have really really wide feet though which still makes them quite difficult.

I was the last normal size of shoe (size 10) until about 5 years ago when my foot grew to an 11 and some of the 11's don't fit well.

I had no idea people were losing shoe sizes and now I can hope that maybe I will someday be back to a 10.

If only I kept some of those shoes.

I started out as a 7 1/2. Sometime during my late 20s to early 30s, I moved up to an 8. I think the loosening ligaments during pregnancy led to that 1/2 jump. After I really started putting on weight, I moved up to an 8 1/2. Now, after loosing 50+ lbs, I'm back to an 8 again.

I used to wear a size 12w and now I wear a size 11w. I never thought I had fat feet but I guess I did! hahaha

This seems to have a similar corrollary with my Wedding Band/Ring. Now that I'm down 40+ pounds my Wedding Ring is always falling off. My guess would be similar that if I retain fat and Water in my hands, my feet would follow the same path and become smaller too.

I don't know why it happens, but it does. I was a 7w and now 6m. I actually noticed the weight loss first in my shoes, go figure.

That is so funny. My sister in law thought I was nuts when I told her my feet were shrinking. I went from a 9 1/2 to an 8 and the 8's are getting big.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
