MargieOK2 0 Posted November 7, 2009 I didn't see what date you were banded, except for the "two days ago." A colleague of mine and I were banded the same day and she had arm and shoulder pain early on but I think it has since dissipated. I have a tightness in my chest (was banded three days ago) when I drink. I'm still using the sperometer from the hospital. I think it may have something to do with the air they fill your stomach with...one of the nurses told us that it rises and causes pain in the shoulders, neck and chest. Walking helped us a lot! babyka16 0 Posted November 7, 2009 it could be the anastesea they used. when i went in they said that when i wake up i may have should and arm pain but would go away.
sweetheart181 10 Posted November 7, 2009 I had arm pain too. I had some in my wrist that felt like a bruise, that lasted about 2 months and it was from the IV. I also had some really bad pain in my shoulder that lasted almost 4 months but then all of a sudden just went away.
GoingforGoal 1,734 Posted November 7, 2009 Its normal. The CO2 they use to expand the abdominal cavity during surgery is compressing against the diaphragm and thus compressing on the phrenic nerve. This is what causes the shoulder and arm discomfort most people experience at some point post-surg. Congrats on your surg!
Doreenm 0 Posted November 7, 2009 Thanks for all the reassurance...it's comforting knowing that you are all out there going through the same thing. One arm feels better today and it looks like its going away. I now had a bad bout of diahrea today. Boy..each day brings new surprises. I am still so happy that I had this done and will be patient while I heal.
Janiece 64 Posted November 7, 2009 I have gas pain in my shoulder, but I think my biceps and wrists are sore from trying to move myself around without using my abs. Pushing off the sofa and pulling against my boyfriend to get up. . .
