My sister considers lap-band surgery "cheating", and I am TICKED!

Recommended Posts

Like everyone has said, the band is a tool. Just like the equipment in a gym are tools. If having the band is cheating then everyone that goes to the gym and use the equipment are cheating. Instead of using the machines, they should go outside and walk or run and use their body weight for weight training. The band was created to help lose weight just as the equipment was intended to do. However, when you tell a trainer or a gym freak this they say NO THAT IS DIFFERENT. How it is different, they can't tell me. The most important thing is you are not living for you sister so don't let your stand in the way of your success. Keep up the good work girl!!!

Whatever it takes to make it work. I know that I needed the band to assisting in keeping me straight. It certainly has not been easy but well worth it.

So if it is cheating so be it. I have not been at this weight for 27 years. I no longer have diabetes or sleep apnea. No back pain or knee pain.

I have had some of the same feedback about getting lapband being cheating. if you show people that you don't care what they think is what I have found to be the most successful. I just say " lapband is cheating but I don't care look at me now. There is no way I could have done it without lapband.". I love who I am and that is the best thing about it. Just have a positive outlook about it and that will help keep you on track!

You cannot control what other people are gonna think or say. This is gonna be one of those things where you will get nothing out of holding on to. In fact, it will do you harm to continue holding on to the ill feelings.

Sadly, sometimes your family, or members of your family just aren't good for you. You can keep loving them and wishing them well, but for your own mental and physical health, it's just not good for you to be around them or deal with them.

Too bad Mom seems to want in on the drama, too. Sounds like they want you the way you were, to me. They probably got something out of you being unsuccessful. Sometimes, people (wrongly) think that they can't win unless someone else loses.

Well, first off, congrats on your success thus far. I'm having the surgery next Friday 12/11. It sounds like to me that your sister is jealous and is dealing with a lot of issues of her own. I would attempt to approach her in a kind way and have a heart to heart talk about it and tell her that you love her and support her and hope for her support as well. If she does not feel like being on your side in this, then move on, love her but agree to disagree. Bottom line is, you are not doing this for HER.. you are doing it for yourself.. and you can't be worrying about what other people think anymore.. You go girl !

i have heard his term and others like the easy way .... but people are jealous or they just dont understand..

i have lost some of my friends after being banded.. but thats because they werent true friends to begin with..

dont let it bug you..

you did this for yourself and nobody else..

Take her to an educational meeting so she can learn and be more knowledgable.. it might benefit her as well..

you say she is overweight as well... encourage her to come excercise with you or try some new healthy recipes with her... if she sees you want to help her maybe that can help as well

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
