I have been banded for one year and have lost 25 pounds. I have 45 to go. I have been filled and defilled several times. My biggest problem is emotional eating. I still choose the wrong foods to eat when I am under stress and I eat too much of them. Unfortunately, there are many forms of junk food, which easily can be binged upon, even with a tight band. I run 3-4 times a week and train for half marathons, so I am very active. I feel discouraged and disappointed in myself. I wish I could stop turning to food in times of high stress.

I certainly understand emotional eating, I've handled much of that myself. Two thoughts, are you attacking the stress? Next, are you sure its stress and not depression? Depression does wacky things to your body. I'm also approaching my 1 year point.

Thanks for replying. I know it's stress because of the times in which I emotionally overeat (times when I have many responsibilities at work and my life feels out of control and out of balance). I am a school teacher, a wife and a mother. I find time to run in the morning before school. I usually get up at 4:50am 2 or 3x/week and run 10km. On the weekend, I do a longer run. Next week I will be running a half marathon. How do you "atttack" stress and how do you control emotional eating?

The band was not a fix it all for your weight issues, so you will probably need to get professional help to find the root cause of your emotional eating. Emotional eating is not something that will go away, it has to delt with. Until you understand and learn how to turn your emotions to something else besides food when things get hard. You have learn tools to deal with your stress and emotions, not food. You have to replace food with something else when you get stressed. I read you're a runner, and if running is not helping with your stress then I would recommend talking with someone. The weight gain is a symptom, and maybe talking to your surgeon will help. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
