HI!!! Happy To Be Here!

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone! I'm Katie and I live in California. I was banded on August 24, and so far I've lost 32 pounds.

I came to know about this website from my lovely cousin, and she hopes to be banded soon as well. We are band buddies! lol

Anyways, it's great to be here, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.

Katie

Hi Katie!!! I see your surgeon was Dr. LePort... What did you think of him. I have my first consultation on the 20th.

HI!! I loved him! He was so very kind, informative, and thorough. You probably won't see him for your first consultation, though. I didn't even meet him until after I was approved by my insurance, and was scheduled for my one-on-one appointment with him.

You will come to see that it is a pretty long and involved process, but everyone that I have come into contact with at that office has been more than a little patient with my questions and concerns.

I'd love to know how your consultation goes! Please keep me up to date with your progress, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Katie

I am finding the people in their office really helpful. I called earlier today to get a little more information as to pre reqs for approval for the surgery. As far as I know ... as per my insurance co I need to have a psych eval and a nutritional consultation. No mention of any sort of 3 to 6 month dr supervised dieting... wich is a plus. I am in that state of mind of "I have made the decision I just wanna get the ball rolling and do this" Hopefully it wont be too long of a process I may talk myself out of it...I have been known to do that LOL:rolleyes:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
