Soooo, Tuesday evening , The depression fairy found me .. Dh comes home from work, I am sitting in recliner, wrapped in a blanket with tears running down my face.. I have had enough of the liquids , mushies, and the whole thing... HE tells me get dressed we are going out .. Oh great, just what I want -- NOT !!!

We pull into red Lobster ( I know cheap so so sea food), but I was excited ... The waiter came and I talked to him and showed him my card and he said he had no problem leting DH and me share a dinner. So we ordered a platter , that had lobster on it .. Husband got everything but the lobster.

I shredded that tail and smothered it with lemon juice. This was the best lobster I have ever had . after this dinner , I am back on track.

BTW-- No I did not have , salad or bread and I had 1 tablespoon of baked potato with my lobster.

Maybe I need to cry more often ...The waiter was a sweetie about all of this and we of course tipped him on double the amount of the bill.

See what a little cry can do! The emotions you will go through during this process are amazing and eye opening. I wish you the best on your jouney! Maybe the next time you feel like crying suggest to your husband a jewelry store instead of red lobster. Diamonds have no calories! LOL. Thanks for the story it made me laugh. I remember those days.

I remember during the first few weeks post-op feeling so depressed about giving up the foods I love. Now I don't even think about it. It's only because you are hungry that you feel depressed.

When you start to feel this way go outside and go for a walk. Changing your focus will save you every time and exercise helps to release endorphins and serotonin that will help eliminate the depression.

I used the jewelry store after my accident in '96. We were in there trying get my wedding ring cleaned & repaired . Jeweler said "no luck". While the jeweler was inspecting my ring ,of course I was looking around, and had spotted a 1 1/4 carat tear drop shaped diamond set in a WIDE free form gold setting . Jewelers intrepretation of snow melting in the Rockies. DH says to jewlers- Give her that one - and pointed to that ring . I am still wearing it . Dh is terrified of jewlery stores .. Especially

custom jewelers.. LOL

I am soooo sorry that you are having 2nd thoughts . I have had not had a moment indecision since I started researching Lap band .. My biggest problem was finding a doctor I liked and trusted .. for me that meant , going to Texas. But that is okay, I will make the 7 hour drive because I love the doctor and his staff. The notebook I got from Dr. B. after my surgery explained the bouts of depression ,so Dh knew what to do and what to expect.. I am feeling so good about myself right now. Granted , I have lost only 16 pounds, but that is a bag of potatoes ,2 loaves of bread and a box of chocolate donuts I am not carrying with me every day.. I will give every pound of loss a designation. Of course it will be something that was bad for me and I ate excessive amounts of it . I guess I am fortunate that I have been able to deal with this . Sure I have some doubts, but this to will pass.

You can email me privately at (Check you email)

It looks like a credit card -- Says Lap-Band on it . It came with the info pack from my doctor after my surgery. I filled out the on line application(rather than doing the mail in ) and received my card in the mail lessthan a week later.

what card did you show to the weighter?

What does the card do? I got one from my doc office (a laminated business card) and they said to show it at restaurants, but I have no idea what it does.

I guess I don't understand the point of showing the card at the restaurant? I know that the average portion they bring you is like 3-4 times (or more) what we should be eating. But ask for a take out box. Ask for 3 boxes, and divide it up into 4 portions, eat one and take 3 home. If you get the to-go boxes before you start eating, it makes it alot easier to know "when to stop" My wife and I often split a meal before the lap-band. Now, we can split a meal, and I can take half of my half home for lunch the next day (depending on the restaurant)

I have never found a restaurant that argues with me, or won't accommodate my requests. If I did, I would let my shoes do the explaining, as I walked out the door to find a better restaurant.

Mine is a Patient ID card

Lap-Band AP System

The back side has muy surgical date and My surgeons name & number

Tell that I have lap band and that device is compatible with MRI. Also tell your PCP be careful when prescribing ulcerogenic meds/

Note on bottom: Please allow this person to order smaller portions, as the amount of food this person can eat has been greatly reduced.

So if I go to a buffet with friends, I can order the childs portion and save $$$. Which I need since I am a self pay patient ..

My Dr gave me one in his packet. It states to allow me to order off the childs menu or have a reduced rate at buffets. Not all places honor it, I was told in Las Vegas all the major casinos and buffets honor it. Here in Reno some do some don't, you would be amazed at the ones that don't they are the larger places, one is in Sparks. Anyway as a former poster stated I can always vote with my feet by not going to the places that don't abide.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
