Any ideas for protein during clear liquid phase??

Recommended Posts

Hello, i had my surgery on Nov. 3rd and im on a clear liquid diet until my first post op visit on the 16th. Im concerned about not getting enough nutrients and Protein so Im pretty much sticking to broth, popsicles, low calorie gatorade and sf Jello. Any other ideas for clear liquid diet? I wont be starting full liquids till the 16th i assume.. Thanks for any ideas....

That's a LONG time to be on Clear Liquids, I'd check with your nutritionist and make sure you have that right. Mine recommended clears for 3-7 days and most people start incorporating some full liquids after 3 days.

While you are on Clear Liquids, GNC has several clear Protein drinks. Isopure is one and there are a couple of others. They are 20-24 oz a bottle and cost about $4, which is a little high but when you can only drink 4 oz at a time its not that bad. They taste ok too, better than the low-sugar gatorade. And each bottle has 40 grams of Protein.< /p>

I am also on a 2 week clear liquid diet, the times are different from Dr. to Dr. so don't worry that you have it wrong. My nutritionist recommended Nu whey drinks, they have from 20 - 40 grams of Protein per drink. You can get them at health food stores, or if you have a CVS pharmacy, they sell them there. They look like big shooters, and the taste is ok. A little pricey, but worth it to make sure you are getting your protein.

Isopure shakes or even the Isopure drinks (come in fruity flavors) are considered 'clear' even though the dutch chocolate looks like chocolate Water. It has to do with how the powder dissolves.

I'm on clear liquids for 3 days (also had mine done on Nov. 3rd) and then I start full liquids until day 11. I've been drinking the Isopure dutch chocolate shakes twice a day and then homemade chicken broth twice a day. The remainder of my fluids are Water.< /p>

I was only on clear liquids for a week (including 2 days pre-op) and was told not to worry about Protein, the whole point was just keeping hydrated. Talk to the doctor for some recommendations. My staff gave me a detailed plan each week of what I could eat.

www.unjury.com The chicken flavored Protein is great. And also the unflavored is good because you can put it in Crystal light or Jello.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
