My Band is CONFUSED!!!

Recommended Posts

Alright so two weeks ago I had my fill and I am up to 5ccs in a 10cc band. It has been a rough two weeks and I have been PBing on everything soft. pureed chickpeas, Soups, broth, Protein Shakes. However I have been able to keep down crunchy items and Water. Has anyone else had this?

Sounds like you are too tight. Soft and mushy foods should go down easily. What you should be aiming to eat is solid Protein as this is what your band is designed to work with.

If by crunchy foods you mean foods such as crackers and crisps they will go down easily no matter how tight you are as they are slider foods. they dissolve before they get to the stoma and being able to eat these is not an indicator that you are not tight enough.

I think you should go back to your Dr and get some Fluid taken out.

Your stomach may still be very swollen from all the PBing. You need to go back to a day of Clear liquids only and then a day of all liquids and see if it gets better.

After a PB experience, my surgeon instructed me to always finish that day off with Clear Liquids only. One incident of PBing will cause your stomach to swell around the band and make it harder to eat.

Having a cold or sinus problem will also cause your stomach to swell. So this would also be a good time to return to a liquid diet.

Try the above first because it may not be necessary to get an unfill.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
