Believe me, this rough patch doesn't mean you've made a mistake. I know you know it's important to follow your doctor's instructions, but post-op, it's even more critical because your stomach is healing. Call your doctor's office if you feel like you just can't stick with it for their advice, because many times I've seen where people have been given additional foods they can eat to help pull them through this period.

Good luck!! It's well worth the pain.

I felt the same way during my 2 weeks of Clear liquids. I kept asking myself, why did I do this?

I can tell you that this is the WORST part and soon you will be on your way to a leaner, healthier person. Don't cheat! You will regret it. Just try to drink more Water to fill your stomach. Yes, you will still be hungry but it is so worth it!

I can certainly understand that.

Just try to keep your eye on the prize. Try to get creative with your full liquids (there should be lots of examples in the nutrition forum on LBT). If you can, try to do something to keep your mind off your hunger (easier said than done, but we've all been there, so you're at the right place for support).

From the food and Nutrition forum (although always check with your doctor's diet plan):

*STAGE 1 - LIQUIDS

START: When you return home from your surgery

DURATION: For 2 weeks post surgery, or until your next dietitian appointment.

DIET: Clear and full liquids

GOAL: Aim for at least 64 ounces of Fluid for the day by continuous sipping.

LIQUIDS RECOMMENDED:

Water

100% fruit juice (No sugar added)

Bouillon

Strained Soups or broths

Skim or 1% milk

Soy milk

Milk shakes - thinned

Gatorade or equivalent sports drink

Yogurt smoothie drinks - not including homemade

Crystal Light

sugar free beverages

Herbal or decaffeinated tea or coffee

Popsicles (Pedialyte

Hang in there! I have really enjoyed trying all of the flavors of Crystal Light. They are the cheapest at Walmart. My favorite is Pomegranate Lemonade!

Hello,

I am 12 days post opt. and I am getting by with creamed Soups. Does your doctor allow creamed soups? I love the cream of mushroom! Please hang in there! It is worth it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
