Can you still sleep on your tummy?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I have one more nutritionist visit to go before submitting to BCBS for approval. I always sleep on my tummy and I was wondering if the port would be too pokey to do that after the band. Can anyone tell me that?

Thanks,

Abbe

After surgery, it took me about 4 weeks to be able to sleep on my stomach again. The incisions, swelling, etc. were too much to sleep that way at first. I can not feel my port at all so it does not hinder any movement or sleep pattern. Good luck.

I am only 10 days postop and I have always slept on my tummy. Even though I am still sore, I have managed to prop up pillows all around me and I do sleep on my side. My husband said it looked as if I was sleeping on my tummy, but I was more or less laying on my side with pillows under me. It was pretty comfortable and didnt hurt. Good luck to you!

I stayed overnight in the hospital and only got 3 hours sleep on my back. Got home the next day and started on my side but ended up on my stomach. I won't lie, turning back over when I woke up hurt like heck and I yelled the whole time....but it couldn't have been so bad because I've been sleeping on my stomach ever since. You don't feel anything poking you, it's just that your muscles and wounds need to heal. You'll be sore until they do. But you also need sleep to heal and I couldn't sleep unless on my stomach. My Dr. told me it was okay, but you should check with yours to see if he wants you to avoid it.

I slept on my back and my right side (my port is on my left side) for probably a month or 5 weeks after surgery. It wasn't the most comfortable as I like to switch sides while I'm sleeping and I also like to sleep on my tummy, but I was too nervous to try to sleep on my stomach. But after that initial period, I was able to sleep on my tummy with no problems at all and I can't feel my port poking.

Good luck with the insurance and approval!

I slept on my tummy again maybe 3-5 days after surgery. It was uncomfortable at first but better then having my dog sleep on my stomach. My tummy didnt hurt for long after surgery though so maybe thats why it was easier. Or maybe it is because I just right back into my old routine that I didnt have lots of pain after surgery ( apparently I am one of those people who go back to work right after surgery etc). It was my lungs and chest that hurt forever. I actually found it more comfortable to sleep on my stomach after surgery.
