Banded 9/23 had 2nd fill and have a restriction ?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 9/23. I have lost 20lbs, but not because I have been feeling any restriction. I am using sheer will power to get this weight off.

I had my second fill last thrusday and I felt some restriction right after, but I was on liquids and mushies for 2 days.

Saturday I tried to eat and got stuck after 1 bite at every meal and the food had to come up. I even thought for a brief second that the band might have been too tight, but then..........

Sunday....no restriction at all. I was able to eat any foods that I wanted from shrimp to white meat chicken and salad and did not feel any restirction....I mean none

Why would this happen??

today not feeling any either....

Hi Pookiemp --- I had surgery on 8/26/09 -- have had two fills 10/6 & 10/30.. I don't think I've had restriction like it should be. I'm eating still, I get full after eating, for example today I had a bowl (1 cup) of chili and some oyster crackers. I was about half way through the chili and stopped. I sat for a while talking at lunch and then I felt sick at my stomach, is this restriction? If so it was horrible. Other than that I'm able to eat still. I'm still new at this restriction feeling and not sure if I'm having it or not. Everything goes down fine. Nothing gets stuck. I just get full and then stop eating. Any advice would be appreciated.

Pookiemp,

I was banded on 9/21 and am having my FIRST fill tomorrow. I wonder why I had to wait so long??? I have lost 27 pounds post surgery and I agree with whomever said they are using sheer willpower to lose weight. I feel like that is the only thing that is restricting me. If I had this willpower maybe I didn't need the band but I know the hard part is going to be to keep the weight off. Good LUck. I am a little nervous about tomorrow regarding pain and I hope I feel some restriction.

Don't worry about the pain...the numb the area with lidocane and then access the port. The only thing that I felt was just some pressure when he was pusing on my abdomen to feel the port area.

Thanks everyone else...I'm glad I am not the only one!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
