Oct 2009 Bandsters -which side is your port?

Recommended Posts

Hello October Bandsters -

My doc put my port on my right side (he re-used my gallbladder scar to minimize the number of scars on my belly).

When I was discharged they gave me a medical alert card indicating that I have been banded and suggested I carry it with me. I decided to write on the card that my port was on the right side (seems that info wasn't on the card; but don't know if it is critical).

So which side is your port on Right or Left..

I was banded October 5 and my band is on my left side underneath my rib cage. I don't think you have to worry about it though. Hopefully, if you ever had an emergency, a doctor would feel around your abdomen to feel the port. Although I think it's a good idea writing which side the port is located on your card.

Surgery 10/23, port on the left side, just a bit higher than my belly button. Not sure if it is because I am still inflamated but I can't feel it much. Do you guys have the same issue??

My port is on right just above my waist line...my dr is left handed and he said he can anchor the port better on the right side...his nurse told me it is his "mark" because the former dr. always put the port on the left side....my father's port is directly above is belly button....my port site is still sore but I think it is due to a coughing spree that I had on Saturday....all else is going well....all the best to the rest of you as well.:scared2:

Mine is on my left side. I can't feel with my fingers--do any of you guys? (although I'm too much of a chicken to press in LOL) --it's just really tender, so I know it's there.

My port is midline 1 1/2 -2 inches from my sternum.

Mine is upper left towards the middle and I can feel it. It is very near the surface.

I can't feel my port, but then again, I am still quite bloated. I do have some pain when I get up out of a chair too quickly.

RE: the medical card. I had the Realize band, but I don't think the medical card was specific to band, it was something that Barix provided to me when I was discharged. On one side it is a notice to medical providers that I am banded (with some technical blurb) and to call Barix if they have questions, on the other side there is a statement to restaurants asking if they will honor my request for smaller meal sizes or ordering from the kids menu.

My port is Right side, a couple inches below the ribs. I too got the medical card and the Realize Band. My card is branded Realize though...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
