Ok, so here is the thing. I have been on this pre-op diet for a week and a half. My surgery is on Nov. 5th. I have followed everything to a tee, however I have only lost about 6 lbs. The diet that my doctor has me on is 2 Protein Shakes a day then 1 lean cuisine for dinner. They said expect to lose 10-20 lbs and I didn't even make it to the 10 mark. I don't understand. I have been so good on this. I have not cheated at all and have been very strict. Can someone please give me some advise? Thanks

A lot can happen in 4 days! Weight can bounce 4 lbs per day in either direction! Don't get discouraged. Are you drinking Water?

Maybe it's Water weight? I'm a pre-op liquid diet that I chose to do, my doctor didn't require it. I'm on day 2 of it, and I'm about to go nuts, so I'm thinking I might follow the same thing as you and do 2 Protein drinks and for dinner have a lean cuisine.

Good luck, I wish you the best in your surgery!:scared2:

Here's my advice for what it's worth.

You know you have to follow this preop diet and no matter what you do, the weight will come off at it's own pace, and Water weight DOES make your weight fluctuate up and down 5 lbs. SO... since you have to do this diet regardless, just do the diet and DON'T WEIGH again until you get to the doctor's office. It will keep you from getting discouraged again. Instead of focusing on the scale, focus on sticking to the preop diet. I'm starting mine tomorrow. Good luck to both of us!

Thanks everyone for the advise. I am not so much worried about the weight loss for me right now but worried about it cuz I am so close to surgery and don't want my doctor to say not enough gone so I'm not doing the surgery. I don't think he will but it is a thought that I am worried about. Like I said I have been doing what I am supposed to. So I hope you all are right and it is just Water weight. Thanks again :scared2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
