I'm five days post-op! So far I'm experiencing some really bad hiccups that radiates really bad pain in my shoulder. I read some other posts and read different things. Anyone have any suggestions as to what exactly that comes from?!

Also, feeling great considering. Im moving around alot better, but still very sore around the biggest incision.

Im so ready to use my tool to a better, healthier me! Im at a stand still right now, but I was told during the first week post-op I would prob see very little or none at all due to the gas and initial Water weight.

I guess I'm wondering what a good goal for christmas would be. I started out at 295, I'm 275 now. So, I was thinking 30lbs (total) . Any input would be great!

Thanks for any suggestions/feedback ahead of time:thumbup:

I was banded 10/28 and when I woke up from surgery I had the worst pain in my left shoulder that at times it would make me cry. I suffered through most of it until yesterday, I finally went and bought the real Gas-x Strips and ate like 4 of them. I had been using the generic pills and they were not working. I also bought some liquid Tylenol :scared2: which was horrible and to top it all off, some orange flavored chewable vitamins. I took my little cocktail at about 2pm, made it home around 3 pm and laid down to nap. I slept off and on for about 2 hours and then got up to go trick or treating with the kids.

By the time I got home I was exhausted and in alot of pain in my shoulder and everything else. I ate another Gas-x strip and then I took some niteqil. It totally knocked me out, I just woke up this morning and there is very little pain. Just hang in there, this is only making us stronger.

It gets better & better each day. Hang in there, you're not alone. I set my goal to lose 1-2 pounds a week and to take it one day at the time. It works for me better than a larger goal that I might not meet.

I also just had my surgery 10/29 and I have had the horrible gas pains and hiccups. It's funny because I also want to set a 30lb goal by the new year! I think that you can try your best at achieving the 30 lb loss in a healthy way, but I have already prepared myself to look at how wonderful I am going to feel in December even if it isn't an exact 30 lb lost! Your body is going to lose weight at the pace it needs to, especially if you follow the post op diet and exercise guidelines. You'll do great if you stick to them come this Decemeber! I wish you the best of luck!

I too was banded 10/29...feeling alot of back pain and walking alot to eleviate the gas pain....hiccups for a few minutes the first day after surgery...doing better today but need to take lots of Milk of Magnesa...due to the anathesia I would assume...30 pounds is also my goals as my older children will all be home for the holidays, first time in 2 years and they do not know that I had the surgery, surprise.

Let me jump on the band wagon. Also banded on 10/29... I have not had any localized gas pains. Not sure if it is related to the fact that the nurses had me up and walking every 4 hours around the clock for two days. The one thing I have been is backed up! My nurse called me today and told me to get a ducolax suppository, and boy did that do the job. She told me not to take milk of magnesia (as I read this on another post). Anyway, if your gas pains get bad, keep walking, it helps move things out and on their way!

Be well

My surgery date was 10/29 with a few complications. I was hypotensive with blood pressure 80's/40's. I also had an area that decided to bleed. So, my outpatient stay ended up with an over night stay. Ugh!

I did have the hiccups and read at one of the sites that this can be related to too much consumption at one time. So, I am measuring out my 2 oz of SF Jello and that seem to improve that. But, the neck & shoulder pain is still coming & going which is related to gas. My bellie is distended and firm which I also relate to gas.

I just can't wait until day 14 when I weigh myself & I drop a bunch. I gained 7 lbs from surgery with fluids etc.

Oh, the one thing that I have to get use to is the bubbling in my abdomen. Very weird sensation, I will be asking the surgeon about this.

Hoping every day gets a little better! Sheri:rolleyes2:

i had bad chest pains also and heart pains. i felt soo congested and terrible. as of today i feel great and let me tell u i have noooo problems gettin the gas out now!! im very proud of myself:thumbup:. hehe..

Good luck. Seems you and I are on the same wave as far as pain and stand stills. Had mine last Wednesday and still having those pains. I have been resting with a hot/moist compress on my stomach and shoulder area. It seems to move the gases and the pain soon dissapates. Of course the Vicodin has been a great help.

Everyday I lose at least a pound.

I'm about 6 weeks post op and suffered much the same. My doctors advice: walk, walk and then walk some more. It helps release all the air that is trapped in your abdomen from the surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
