Ok, I lost 14 pounds in the 5-6 days after my surgery and now it's day 14 and no more loss. Spare me the "it's time for healing not losing" and what not b/c I KNOW that!!! But knowing that doesn't make me feel better b/c I spent 12,600 bucks on this band and everyone on here makes it sound like you lose most weight in the 1st 6 months, etc. I am just annoyed and I know it's "to be expected" but it's still annoying!!!!

OK then... Don't hold back. Scream and rant all you want.

Look at the before & after pictures - that will help.

AND - I spent about two full work days this week looking at the scientific studies on the band... Those studies show that, while the first 18-24 mos is important - Bandsters keep on losing, and losing and losing for a long time.

Scream and kick, if you want. It will make you feel better.

:]

Oh good, I was beginning to think we were going to have to send you to your room until you could act like a human being again. :)

Guest myband

Hey Laura,

I was patient knowing I have to get to the right fill, Look below at my results...........now this is where a negitive person gets depressed!!!

Its now been 4 days since my last fill, have restriction and lost 3 Ibs.

Waited for this for 3 months.

Have lost 25 Ibs...............Damn thats weight I would have probably put on before the band, worth the wait and I'm not young like you.

Okay...at the risk of setting you off again...you may not have lost an ounce. But don't panic. See...people get very dehydrated and, wanting to believe that they have already lost a bunch of weight, insist they have lost a bunch of weight, and then get all cranky when it "stops" or when they "regain."

You got dehydrated from surgery. You MAY rehydrate and "gain" (on that stupid scale) every ounce...BUT it's all PRETEND. REALLY.

The scale is bouncing around. It's fluctuating Water weight. There is no other way--short of amputation or childbirth--to achieve a 14 pound loss on a scale in less than a week. So...as you rehydrate...the scale may move upward. If that happens, REPEAT AFTER ME: THIS IS MEANINGLESS.

You just need to back away from the scale and have a responsible adult take care of it for a while. (NO. I cannot do that. But it's still a good idea.)

Okay, and I lost 15 pounds the first 12 days after surgery and didn't lose another ounce until just before my first fill at 3 months!!! I went up and down a pound or two and it wouldn't have been so bad but my weight was 208. I hate 208. It's how much I weighed when I got PG with both of my kids. I could never get below it, but for the occasional 207.something. I was hoping that blasted 208 would be left in the dust as a distant memory, but noooooo, my body liked it too much. Thankfully, I'm down below 200 and struggling for the 180s, but it was a little disheartening at the time.

Glad you are feeling better about it. It helps to have a little temper tantrum...is that what that was? hehe. You are funny. The scale is a curiosity. Look if you must but ignore it if you don't like it. It really is meaningless this soon after surgery. :)

i lost 8lbs immediately after surgery - and gained back 4lbs before my first fill 7 weeks afterward - it happens - so if it happens - don't freak out - just go get your fill

Don't defeat yourself with nonsense...take the big pictures point of view, and know that what you have the power to do is control what you eat. I just recently broke a 3 week plateau...I changed a couple of things I was doing, and kept after it. It was hard. But the main thing that happened is my body adjusted to a new weight, and decided it was time to let go of some more weight. Please don't sabotage yourself with negative thoughts. Cindy

I feel frustrated a bit too - banded 9/8 and have lost 14. Have my first fill 10/8 and don't feel any different. Hopefully when I go back 11/9 for another fill (they only put .8cc the first time) I will get "the restriction." I don't think I've ever had that - I've had something getting stuck and that hurts a ton - but what about restriction. What does that feel like - does it hurt? I'm frustrated because I would have thought I would have lost more than 14 by now. I've only lost 2 lbs since my first fill.

Brenda, real restriction doesn't hurt. Getting stuck hurts, PBing hurts, but being restricted means you have to slow down, be careful, eat slowly (to avoid the stuck and PBs) and you get full faster. And you stay full for longer. You will get to it, keep on your fill schedule until it hits, and it will.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
