Starting Pre-op diet Sunday! Who's done it?

Recommended Posts

So ..... I'm starting my pre-op diet this Sunday the 1st. My surgery is on the 13th. My husband and I are celebrating our anniversary early this year. Our anniversary is the 2nd of November, but we are going to Celebrate it tomorrow. Yeah, Halloween!! Aww well. Anyway.. I'm really nervous about starting this pre-op liquid diet. '

I just got back from the store and bought a bunch of Jello, crystal light, and other liquid stuff. I also have 2 big things of whey Protein mix different flavors.

I'm not required to do this pre-op liquid diet, but I choose to do based on the fact that I wanna get a head start and get my body used to this change.

I'm not messing around.

Anyway...those who have done it, how have you guys done? Did you cheat? Did you do great all the way through?

I did the preop liquid diet for over two weeks and it went ok. I didn't cheat, just kept focused on the prize and did fine. I had surgery 10/27/09 and will be on this same liquid diet for 4 weeks. But I really am not that hungry right now, just trying to get the Water and Vitamins in along with the other liquids. You can do it! Jan:thumbup:

I'm gradually starting to cut back.. I got on the scale the other day and was 9 lbs heavier than when I met with my surgeon! My doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet either but I feel that it will give me a head start too. I just had a Protein Shake for Breakfast and will continue with liquid portion of diet till my surgery November 12th! Can't wait

I am starting my pre-op diet on the 1st too! I am getting banded on Nov. 17th. My doctor's recommended pre-op diet is 2 Protein Shakes a day and 2 high Protein, low carb meals a day. That doesn't sound too hard. I have done the Atkins thing in the past, and once you get past the first couple of days, it gets easier to manage. I will be thinking of you tomorrow as i down my first shake.

Thanks guys for the support. It's good to know you guys have done it. I'm worried about cheating, but I think if I set my mind to it, I'll be OK.

I'm ready for this!

I was banded on June 16, 2009 and I had to do a full liquid diet for two weeks before and two weeks after surgery. The first three days were absolute hell. Then, after that, it was like someone flipped a switch. food didn't really matter to me because I knew what was coming after all this would be so much better than anything I'd every experienced. This works, keep your chin up and remember that things are not always what they seem.

This site is amazing and people have talked me off the edge many times. I did not cheat on my liquid diet. It's easier if you don't cook though. I'm not a cook, don't know how, have literally burnt Water. lol My hubby is a chef though, that's why I don't need/want to cook. That's part of what made it so much easier for me is that I don't cook. If you do cook, ask someone else to do it while you're starting your journey. And tell them making your favorites are off limits. That's what I did and it worked for me.

The two week liquid diet pre-op is a requirement by my surgeon. I could have 3 Protein Shakes and 1 Protein Bar which was provided by the surgeon's office. I could also have sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, crystal light and clear broth. It was pretty hard the first few days, but I did get used to it. I wouldn't say I didn't cheat, but when I did it was sugar free and carb free. A couple of times I had an egg white and I ate a few dill pickle chips, but that was it. I had my surgery October 27th and am still on a liquid diet for another week and a half when I can go to mushies. The difference this time around is that I can have cream Soups, yogurt, and cream of rice so I have a few more options. Am starting to yearn for some real food to bite into, but I know that will come. I keep my eye on the prize and know that eventually I will be able to eat normal food, only in much smaller portions than I was used to. I am excited to be starting my bandster journey. Good luck to you.

I'm going crazy and it's only my first day. I'm having 2 protien shakes and Jello, broth Soup. Like I said my doctor doesn't require a pre-op "liquid" diet --but I just wanna get my body prepared for it, but I'm just wondering if I should try doing 2 Protein Shakes and maybe a lean cuisine for dinner because I'm more concerned about low calorie meals.

I'm glad that you got through it!:scared2:

I feel like I'm going through absolutely hell, and it's only the first day -- well technically I'm on my second day , (as I right this while I'm at work on the night shift and it's 12:38AM) and it's really hard!:frown:

I hope that I get that switch flipped!

I might need some help with sticking to be motivated.

I don't really cook all that much, my husband cooks, and he can continue to cook for himself -- Thank god!:scared2:

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
