OK, all of our doctors tell us to stop smoking. I did for about 24 hours. It's been almost a year since I had my surgery. I've lost 50 lbs, I feel great. However, I have incredible heartburn. I went to the doctor last week, and they removed some Fluid thinking I was too tight. Now, I eat EVERYTHING! I really think the heartburn is from smoking. Anyone else have this problem? I keep wanting to call the doctor, to have him put the fluid back in, but then again, I want to do what's right - STOP SMOKING - then once I do good - get a reward of more fluid. Am I a mess or what? Please let me know your advise. Thanks so much.

I dont think your heartburn is caused by the smokeing, I smoke and have not had one case of heartburn while banded woot used to have it all the time.

Stopping smoking is very important. Please use all resources available to quit. I used a website called quitnet.com to help me along with dr reccomendations. Quitnet sends you an email every morning telling you how many days, how much $ you have saved an how many days you have added to your life. It has been vital in my quitting smoking.

I don't smoke and never have, so it's easy for me to tell you that you need to stop. All the information is out there for you to make a informed decision about your health as you did with the band. If you were told that the band could give you cancer, you wouldn't have done it...right? Well, evaluate the smoking in the same way. It's your body and your health. Whatever you decide, good luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
