I got banded this morning have questions about what to drink

Recommended Posts

I got banded this morning..My diet papers to say drink room temp. Water is it ok to put the sugar free flavor packages in there as long as its still room temp?

Also said I could have broth/bouillon is there a limit on that?

Also are we suppose to sleep on our backs only??

I slept on my back for 4 days then I slept on my stomach with a pillow between me and the bed. The only reason you cannot sleep on your stomach is because of the pain.

Goodluck!!!

I don't know what everyone else's doc tells them, but mine told me ice cold liquid is best for the first few days.

The colder the liquid, the better it helps keep the swelling down. The room temp part is things you would normally drink hot, like broth. I was told if you can see through it, it is clear liquid.

I still can't sleep on my left side and I was banded on Oct. 23. Only because it hurts a little. I was able to sleep on my back and my right side. There were no limitations on that, just in the hospital the day of the surgery they wanted your head up. As for the other stuff. I was told the colder the better also because it takes the swelling down. Also sugar free ice pops are good. The broth you can drink all that you want. If you want to put stuff in your Water, I use Crystal Light. I get tired of too much water so I tend to put the Crystal Light packets in there.

By the way welcome to the losing bench. I wish you luck.

Be careful of the bullion...there is a LOT of sodium in there, unless you were able to find the low sodium ones. I slept in my recliner for the first 4 days after surgery, I am a side sleeper and I am still sleeping with a pillow btwn my tummy and the bed to be more comfortable.

Welcome aboard and best of luck to you!!

I slept in my recliner for a week but now sleep on either side. My doctor ordered cold Water and SF ice pops as much as I wanted. Water can have crystal lite. Watch the salt in the bouillion. No limit on any of it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
