I remember how happy I was to get mine- it's like the light at the end of the tunnel. For day of surgery and next day, I placed my experience on a sticky thread at the top of the Post Surgery Board called "Surgery Day Stories". I recommend you check that out because there are so many experiences that you really get a feel for everything that can happen that day. Best of luck to you!! susan0978 0 Posted November 1, 2009 I am in Texas so I don't have your doctor either but.... Congrats on getting your surgery date! My pre op with my doctor was pretty much to discuss which surgery I was going to get, at the hospital they just did my blood work and an EKG...and got all the paper work in order. I had to have other tests pre op though. I had to have the sleep study to see if I had sleep apnea, I had an EGD to see if I had a hiatal (sp?) hernia and then I had to have an session with a psychiatrist and a nutritionist. I did not have to stay over night at the hospital so I was at the hospital at about 9am, surgery was about noon or so. I had to get up and have the barium drink so they could do an xray to make sure that the band is working right and I was home by 5pm. Felt pretty good right after surgery (that night) the next day I was sore. I slept in my recliner for the first week because I was not comfortable sleeping in the bed (I am a side sleeper). All in all the first week I was sore but it was not horrible pain (and of course I had drugs!!). The liquid diet sucks...but follow your doctors post op instructions and you will do fine. It is well worth the few days of discomfort for the reward of losing the weight and getting healthier!! As the time gets closer you will have all kinds of emotions and concerns about what you are about to do. But trust me you are not alone most all of us had the same feelings and concerns. I bet most everyone on this website is happy with their choice to have the band and have no regrets with their decision. Good luck!!!
