I didn't run...I did it!

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery yesterday. Just to give you a short overview. My surgery was scheduled at 10:30am, I arrived at the surgery center at 9:00am. I was quickly taken to the back and undressed and had an IV put in. I guess I was really nervous because I had to go the the bathroom about 5 times within an 1 hour period. So 10:30 came and went, I was advised that my doctor was running late and would be there about 12pm. So I just laid there the staff was really nice I was only allowed 1 vistor but they let my mother and sister come back and sit with me. I started to make a run for it when my IV came out but I didn't. The last thing I remember was laughing with my mother and sister as they were taken me back at 12:30pm. I have to say that my stomach doesn't really hurt but the gas is unbearable, I've never flet anything like this before. Good news is that I feel alot better today than yesterday. I've been up walking and holding a pillow seems to help me. Just wanted to share my experiece with everyone.

Congratulations!!

I'm still preband but from everything I've read on here, the key to getting rid of the gas is walk, walk, walk! You'll be feeling better before you know it!

Good for you! Congratulations!!! Yes, moving around will move the gas. That was my hardest part. It took me about 8 days to get rid of it all and feel "normal." I don't regret it for a second though. Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
