Hello everyone

Recommended Posts

I am new here and I thank God for this site.

I used to be 125-130lbs. My first child left me at 170lbs and my second at 220lbs. After numerous failed diets, I am now 278lbs.

I had my surgery last Monday (10/19/09). I started "mushy" food yesterday (oatmeal with skim milk for Breakfast, sugar-free juice mixed with Water and Ysopure with skim milk plus in between, bean Soup for lunch...still sipping on the Protein Drink until dinner. I may have Yogurt for dinner, I am not sure yet.)

I used to feel weak and light-headed during week one, now I feel full the whole day. Also, I haven't weighed myself as of yet, but I feel a lot looser.

I am scheduled to see my surgeon this coming Thursday because I am still experiencing pain inside my tummy from the procedure. Is this normal?

Am I doing it right?

Does filling hurt?

Go banders!!!:cursing:

Welcome to LBT!

Sounds like you're getting off to a great start. It's not at all unusual to have some stomach pain for a few weeks. Mine was at my port site. It would come and go, but adult strength liquid Tylenol would zap it. Even several weeks after surgery, I'd have a bit of pain now and then, but nothing that needed medication. Mostly I felt it if I had been sitting for an extended time.

My fill have never hurt. I barely feel a pinch.

Congratulations on your surgery, and keep up the good work.

i'm sure you will feel this is the best decision you've ever made.

i had pain on/off for a few weeks after surgery.

the fills do not really hurt. my doctor does them best but he has a nurse that's pretty good too.

good luck on your journey....

Thank you to all who responded with such kindness to my post. My surgery was a long time in the making. I could not decide whether to go with the gastric bypass or the band. I stumbled upon this site while searching for answers and Boy!! I am glad.

Thanks for the offer heidelfinc. I will contact you via pm soon.

PS...I can't get my sticker to show up on screen. I have 138lbs to lose and I want to keep track on my goal. Please help.

Well your sticker is showing up now. Good luck with the recovery. It is not as bad as you might expect. I am about 15 months out and had some problems but still I am very positive and dedicated to the work ahead. I go to a monthly support group for lapbanders and gastric by-passses and that is good for the moral support and a pat on the back occasionally. After ignoring Protein Shakes for awhile, I have come back to them and believe that they are important. Just remember that the band is only a tool and you have to keep at it. There are good days and then some bad days but I am completely sure for myself that it was well worth it. I am about half way through to my goal and I just keep working at it. Again, good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
