I'm having a difficult time sticking to this Atkins business. After a couple of days I found myself cheating. I'm having extreme hunger even after eating a ton of Protein. I'm also feeling weak and lightheaded. The dietitian made it sound like it was normal to not be "strict" though. My surgery is scheduled for November 4th. Pre-op appt. is in the morning. Not sure about continuing this diet for another week.

I agree, Atkins does suck. Tried it 3 times!

is there a reason you're doing Atkins? It's not great for your health.

It's the 2 week pre-op diet recommended by my surgeon to shrink the liver. I'm sure it's better than the liquid diet but it's still hard for me to stick with it. So hungry!

I also did Atkins for 2 weeks pre-op. I didn't think it was too bad. Just try to have variety. Unlimited amounts of meat. You can have eggs, cheese, cottage cheese, low carb Protein Drinks. I just kept telling myself, "I'm shrinking my liver, I'm shrinking my Liver...."

My surgeon told me of a case where he had a patient on the operating table, went in, and their liver was so thick he could not place the band. That did the trick for me. I did not want a thick liver and end up not being banded.

I meet with my doctor Nov. 3rd and I thought I would start my pre-op diet so I started it on Oct. 24th. Im doing the Atkins Protein and the chicken ,fish w/veggies at night. I like the Atkins protien shakes. Stick with what the doctors tell you because if they didnt think it was for the best then they would tell you. If you really want this surgery then it will be well worth it in the long run. I wish you all the luck.....

There is no reason you should be hungry doing true Atkins. You can eat an entire chicken and still shrink your liver and take off weight while you're at it.

It seems to be getting easier. I'm less hungry and definitely not having the crazy carb cravings I was having the past couple of days.

Jenesy,

I lost 70 pounds on Atkins and kept it off. The first week is the hardest. The second week gets better. After the second week, you start forgetting to eat because the cravings and hunger are gone and you should have tremendous energy. Hang in there.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
