disappointed with surgery:

Recommended Posts

hello everyone.

i had some questions about the lapband. i had the surgery a year ago. i have only lost about 60 pounds and am no where near my goal. i know others who have had weight loss surgery and they are doing far better than me. theyve also went to a different dr. i can basically eat whatever i want and however much i want. i did get the large band because of lots of stomach fat and i now have 8.5CC in the band. the drs office is having concerns about filling me more becuase its so high. i am very disappointed in the surgery and results. anybody have any problems like mine or any suggestions. i would really appreciate it.

Hi Ashley. Welcome to LBT.

I'm sorry you haven't been as successful as you hoped you would be, but congrats on the 60lb weight loss.

I don't understand why your doctor doesn't want to give you more fill if you still don't have good restriction. It sounds like you have the large 14 cc band, is that correct? I have the 9cc Realize Band, and I ended up needing 11cc (or somewhere in that neighborhood) to finally get great long lasting restriction. My doctor did my final fill under fluoro and measured the band pressure to be sure he wasn't overdoing it. I believe he only measures pressure with the Realize Band though. I'm sure it has something to do with it being a low pressure band, but I don't know that for a fact.

Regardless, whether you have a 9cc, 10cc, 11cc, or 14cc band, with 8.5cc you have room for fill. Some of the fill stays in the tubing, so it's not all in the band anyway. It might be helpful if you write down exactly what you're eating, how much, and how soon you're getting hungry again (if you're not doing it already), and go to your doctor armed with that info. Good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
