How does it feel?

Recommended Posts

Hola all, I am A patient of Terry Scarbrough in Houston. I have a question.... What does restriction feel like? I am eating really slowly and chewing my mushy very well.... I am hungry and only eat a little when I am hungry. But I ate more than usual yesterday ( a few oz) but I felt like a bottom less pit. I was banded Oct 3rd.

Now also when I belch I usually don't eat much after that is that restriction?

Also is anyone else from Houston?

Elda

You may not be experiencing restriction yet. Restriction comes from your fills. SOme get restriction initially from surgery but many do not. The key is right now during the healing phase is to practice all of the rules..eat slow, chew chew chew, small bites, no drinking with meals and wait 1 hour after a meal to eat.Protein first then veggies, then fruits if you haveroom then carbs. Remember the first 6 weeks is for healing and getting your band to set into place, not for weight loss. any weight lost during this phase is a bonus. Weight loss will come once you get proper restriction from your fills. Congratulations to you on your new band, I wish you lots of success :D

P.S. It is totally normal to feel hungry during this phase, you are not alone here, all new bandsters get hungry but once the fills start happening your hunger wil lsubside. One thing that works for me with my hunger is Protein, Protein curbs the hunger. Carbs will crave more scarbs and you wil lbe hungry..Keep the carbs to a minimum and the protein high , it will help with hunger!

Hi There - Dr. Scarborough is also my doctor. I got my band on 7/25/05. I have lost 22 lb. Dr. Scarborough does not like you to lose too much too fast. Five pounds a month is all he wants. If you lose more then he doesn't give you a fill.

I really like him and his assistant Connie.

I have had 3 fills and still do not feel a lot of restriction. I just can't seem to tell when I am full. I think it should come after 4 or 5 fills. I have 2 cc in a 4 cc band.

It is very weird, because I have fell "off the wagon" 2 different times and I was also a bottomless pit. However, when I have eaten too much of a balanced meal, I feel totally full. It is very strange.

The belching may be your body telling you that it is full and to stop eating. Sometimes I get the hiccups and I believe that is a sign to stop also.

Good Luck,

Carrie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
