Doer 14 Posted December 15, 2009 It sure IS a long journey, and I have to tell you, the toughest thing was those first three or four days on the Protein Shakes. I couldn't sleep through the night - that's how much I was starving!! But guess what? I got through it and so will you!! Congratulations ... you're on your way there! I'm officially underway on the liquid diet - I downed my first Protein Shake this morning. it's going to be a long journey but getting there will be worth the ride. Wishing all great results. Hey Duece! The shakes arn't that bad - use a blended to kind of froth it up some. I'm starting 3rd day today and really, really, really look forward to each shake. lol Good luck all! Melinco 1 Posted December 15, 2009 Last night I went to the grocery store to stock up on the items I can eat/drink after the surgery as well as to fill two of my three prescriptions. I'm saving the nasal pain med for afterwards in case I need it since I will have a pain pump. I spent almost $100 on groceries and another $50 on the Rx! I may have bought too much, but I wanted to have on stock enough food for several weeks. I got apple and cranberry juices, diet V8 splash, light V8 fusion, canned pears and peaches, cream of wheat, malt-o-meal in chocoloate, sf carnation instant Breakfast mix, lots of Soups, both broth based and cream based, sf instant Jello pudding mixes in lemon, banana cream, butterscotch, white chocolate, and cheesecake, sf fudgesicles, sf popsicles, sf crystal light popsicles, and skim milk. I already have at home the stuff to make plain chicken, beef and vegetable broth (it's the paste kind of buillon). Can you think of anything else I might need, food wise? I told my husband last night that I didn't buy him anything to eat during this time frame of healing, but he could have the bits that I strain out of my soups! lol I don't think he really appreciated that. Wow, just today and tomorrow left. It has gone by quickly.
great expectations 0 Posted December 15, 2009 Tomorrow is my day!! The first day of the rest of my (long) life! After three I can only have clear liquids and after midnight nothing!! My husband is finally being supportive. I knew he'd come around!!! Any last words of wisdom? illuminationlady...tomorrow is my day too! I am soooo excited! I have only been on carnation instant breakfast for the past 7 days with some clear broth in between. I think I have gotten over the hunger headaches since I can even prepare a full meal for my family without loosing it:drool:. My husband is now trying to get me to change my mind, but there is no way! It is time for me to take control of my own life now. I am even excited about exercising! hunybear53 0 Posted December 15, 2009 Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well pre- and post-op! I only have to be on a clear liquid diet the day before my surgery (the 21st), which it seems after reading everyones posts, isnt too common. Does anyone have any recommendations for Protein Shake mixes? Im on the market haha!
Sluggo 0 Posted December 15, 2009 Well I did it. I just got banded about 4 hours ago. I won't bore you with the details but the docs and nurses did help me get over the terror of surgery. Little girl screaming was not necessary. The only surprise was a hiatal hernia needing repair. I am recovering in my hotel room then its a 5 hour drive home tomorrow. I should be hungry because I've been NPO since about 8:00 p.m. yesterday but the tought of drinking anything is not appealing now. Sips of Water helps and the liquid pain med, Hydrocodone I think, tastes absolutley horrible. I've taking 3 short yet quasi brisk walks, one on every hour since I left the hospital. I tolerate it well but the gosh darn cold outside is making it tough. Pain in one shoulder from the gas is, well, its a pain. Hang in there all, keep in touch, and Merry Christmas.
