Swete Pete that is some funny $#@! "PORN." I hear you! and 65DueceCoupe in Kentucky, I am, or was, a grilling red meat carniverous freak down here in Bama. In fact my last blast, which was very tempered, was at a Ruth's Chris Steak House in N'ville. I really minded my manners, no taters, no dessert. Now I regret it! Seriously, the minutes tick by slowly at this point and I too am trying to stay busy. One weird thing for me on this Protein Drink only diet is that my sense of smell seems to be in super drive. Things I wouldn't notice now knock me over. My wife ate something with just a little garlic. She spoke to me and I almost puked. No sugar for me that night! I opened the fridge to grab a cold one - ya know a cold box o' Protein, and the food smells made me recoil in disgust like there was rotted road kill in there. I'm glad noone breaks wind around me I'd probably faint. It wouldn't be me with as little as I'm taking in unless it was just a dust fluffer.

i am on day 7 of Optifast shakes and one optifast bar, but instead of the 4 shakes a day, i am having 3, and one small cup of Fage greek yogurt--the 0% fat one. it has lots of Protein, and is low in calories, no fat. excellent, nice and thick. the first day of shakes i thought i would die, but then i read to add sweetener, 4 or 5 ice cubes, and a flavor extract (i prefer banana or coconut with the chocolate shakes), and they are actually delicious! am also cheating with one cup of coffee per day -- no milk, just sweetener.

lost 6 lbs. so far; my surgery date is monday. yikes!!

Isn't fage the best? That's the one I use as well. And they have a 0% vanilla one as well, I like the plain, tart it's so good, or mixed with honey. Upside is I was eating this before the pre-op so it's not like i"m missing out on anything.

Poppyred,

To change the weight on your ticker, just click on your ticker, it will take you to the tickerfactory website, enter your password, and then enter your new weight and save. It will automatically update your ticker where ever you may have it (like here and on a blog). You won't need to do anything to your signature here, it's automatic.

Good luck! I just changed mine this morning as I'm down a couple of more pounds!

Hi Mel,

Thanks so much...Im just hoping the weather wont keep me from getting banded on friday...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ....Im so ready:cursing:

I cheated AGAIN tonight...ate a few of my son's chicken nuggets..UGH!!! Then he told his dad he didn't like them, my husband looked at his plate and said "well you had to eat ALL of those to figure out you didn't like them?" ....thank goodness my boy is only 5 and just shook his head "yeah"...otherwise I would have been caught! LOL! I feel like a crack head! Better luck tomorrow!

I'm sure it probably is the sodium, but damn it, that's all I've got going for me for flavor for the next 12 days! I don't want to give that up too!! Have you ever tasted reduced sodium chicken buillion? So bland! But yes, I know you are right. Sigh.

I get the Swanson low sodium chicken broth and load it up with black pepper. Is that bad for me? It tastes pretty good.

One week from today I'll be banded!!! Best wishes to those going in tomorrow. Keep us posted. I filled my scripts this a.m. He prescribed liquid Phenergen for the nausea. I was glad to hear it as many of you are sick to your stomachs. He said that the pain killers will nauseate you. Good to know. I set my bedside up with all my meds, chapstick, my IPod, my book and I went shopping for new PJs. I also bought a new robe for myself. Can't wait to enter bandland.

Abby- The Carbonxyhemoglobin test was just a regular bloodtest, not a blood gas. Thank goodness. I hate those!

I was banded yesterday (12/8/09) and I'm pretty sore right now. I went to the Weight Loss Center in Beverly Hills. The process of getting my insurance to cover the surgery was fairly quick. I feel lucky because my aunt was banded 2 years ago and she had a heck of a time getting approved. I have a 2 month old baby that I'm still breastfeeding so I'm pumping and dumping until tomorrow to make sure the anesthesia is all out of my system. I didn't expect to be this uncomfortable, but I'm sure I'll be fine in the next couple days. Off to take another dose of the pain killer and antibiotic.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
