December Bandsters 2009

Recommended Posts

Update! Okay, I had to go out of town for a family emergency, which, in turn, lead to my not starting the Chantix as scheduled. So I called all appointments and moved them back. I am rescheduled for Dec. 22nd (I'm one of the last one's now). But that's okay. Started the Chantix 3 days ago. You are supposed to continue to smoke the first week until it tastes bad. Yesterday I had 10 cigs :cursing:! Awful!! Anyway, where I had to go I could only eat what was fed to me by someone who cooks with grease and butter. Gained 4 lbs. I am so feeling badly right now about everything! I'm glad to welcome all you December Bandsters of 2009. Thanks for all your posts. They have been most helpful. Please pray that I succeed with this Chantix thing. I am back on track as far a my eating (mostly) but really have to quit in order to be banded by Dec. 22nd. I want to stay in our little group and not become a January Bandster. Help!!!!

ps Those of you who have quit with Chantix how did it happen for you? Did you smoke the first week? Did you just one day say, "Okay, I'm done"? Did the cigs start to taste bad? Talk to me people. I need the support...from everyone!!!

You have my prayers. And don't worry, it'll be okay. I don't know about you, but it's stress and anxiety that make me want a cigarette more than anything else, so no worries. The medicine works. Just know that it does and let it. As far as when it'll work - everyone's different... different sizes, different habits, different triggers... so forgive yourself if, for example, on day 8 or 9 (when you're not supposed to smoke anymore), you feel like you have to have a drag. You'll notice that the cigerette tastes really bad and eventually that urgent feeling will go away. You can do it! I promise. I'm right behind you. Not counting a drag here and there, I've been a non-smoker since 9/12/09.

And I just got my surgery date - it's 12/4. Yay!

Welcome Karyn and BigMomma! Karyn, Thank you for the prayers and words of encouragement. The cigs are already tasting weird. Yeah! And I've lost 3 of the 4 pounds I gained. So, feeling a little bit better now. I, too, am getting more and more excited! Dec. 22nd will make a nice Christmas present to myself and 2010 will bring nothing but new found health! Everyone thinks I'm crazy for doing it sooooo close to Christmas but I have a different point of view. This will be the start of my new life. I'll be healthy, healthy, healthy!!! I look forward to following everyone's journey.

Yes, I'm getting my band in December too. I happy and a little scared at the same time. My surgery date is Dec. 9th. No pre-op diet, but I have to adhere to 3 opti-fast Protein Drinks a day for 2 weeks. Gosh, It seems like a looong time on 600 calories a day! I'm afraid I might "stray" a little and screw-up my band! I don't want that. I wonder why some surgeons say 7 day liquid post diet and others say 14 days? Any input would be greatly appreicated!

Hi mchelleintheoc,

I'm really chicken about the Optifast for 2 weeks also. It sounds like the supreme challenge since obviously controlled eating isn't one of our strong points. I haven't eaten 600 calories a day since infancy. And don't even get me started about Thanksgiving!

It seems like all the practices have differing rules about diet; like the 7 versus 14 days of liquids after surgery. I think some doctors are just more conservative (mine is).

I've been drinking slim fasts once or twice a day to get used to drinking liquids. It sure tastes alot better than it did about 15 years ago. Just anything to get more confidence for the challenges ahead.

Hi,

What kind of diet are you going to be on for an entire month? I'm afraid the 2 weeks of Optifast will do me in!

The Christmas gift to yourself makes complete and PERFECT SENSE to me.

And congrats on the three pounds! What's that they say?... "the journey of a hundred pounds begins with a single pound" -?? Something like that anyway. :smile2:

I spent my weekend picking-up random items that I've seem mentioned on the board... High Protein Boost was on sale at CVS, so I bought six six-packs. I bought mango-flavored liquid Vitamins (and Papaya enzymes) at Whole Foods... and looked for, but couldn't find Beneprotein. I have a food processor, a hand mixer and a blender... I don't need an emulsifier, do I?

Geez, it it's almost like I'm pregnant and nesting!

"I haven't seen 600 calories since infancy" - now THAT'S classic!.. Love it.

Have a great day everyone!... it's getting closer and closer to December.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
