Nervous Nellie!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what's "normal" after having a fill. I had my first one done on Thursday and I've been on liquids for two days. I've felt nauseous - but haven't gotten sick. I don't know if it's because I'm hungry or... if it's just becasue of the fill. I don't know how much Fluid was added to my band. I guess I'm nervous about eating again. I'm afraid of something getting stuck or vomiting. I had a Protein Shake today and I can tell it's going down but I still get a little of that pressure feeling in my chest. I want to know how long it should feel like that before I know there was too much fluid added to my band... How long does it generally take for you to know you're at a comfortable or not so comfortable level? *haha* Help! I'm being a nervous nellie about it all! :blushing:

After you get a fill, there is some swelling. The swelling can make you feel tighter. The liquids after are to give your stomach some time to rest and heal. Once that happens, you should be able to have soft foods and then transition to regular people food.

Try super-soft foods when the timing is right. Small bites. Chew lots. Wait between bites.

You'll know if you're too tight. My doc suggests that if soft foods don't go down easily, that you go back to liquids for another day or so.

Of course, if you can't swallow liquids, you need to be seen right away since that would always mean you're too tight.

I hope this helps.

xo

Thanks so much. It did help! I'm feeling a lot better. My stomach seems to be adjusting. I can eat again, just less that I used to... so I guess all is well!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
