I am having my surgery no Monday (10/26/09) at 9 am. Did all my pre-op all happy. Get a call at 4;30 on friday from the insurance coordinator at my doctors office stating that the Doctor found a hernia and that it will need to be repaired. Insurance have been notified but i have to stay over night. I was shocked. Where and when did the find the hernia????? what the heck are they talking about. I requested a call back either from the Doctor or a nurse since the ins. person couldn't tell me anything. I still have not heard back and a little "WTF" about it. I know i can speak to my doctor on Monday but where the heck is he getting the idea that i have my hernia. If its from that gastro test - ok. but i had that done a month ago and that doctor said everything looks fine. So i am a littel baffled.:blushing:

Hi:

Maybe he was looking at your xrays again because your surgery is on Monday and he noticed the hernia. I had a hiatal hernia repair when my band was put in. Not a big difference as far as I can tell.

Hope all goes well with you and your band.

Best that you'll be in the hospital overnight because that way you'll have somebody watching you closely during the first 24 hours after surgery. They'll give you some powerful meds too that should help with the pain.

Take care.

Sue

It is very common for obese people to have hiatial hernias. I had one repaired during my band surgery and did not require a stay at the hospital. Had surgery at 1:00pm and was outta there before 5:00pm.

(and no extra charge for the hernia repair/ self pay)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
