so I am so hopefull that I will be able to get banded in the next six months. My BMI is only 38, but my family Dr thinks I will qualify due to having back surgery this past July, enlarged thyroid, depression, and degenerative arthritis in my back. I have been on Phentermine for two full months at 15mg and have gained weight, so I have been increased to 30mg for two more months then on to the surgery consult. I have been working with a nutritionist and also see a therapist. Any feedback will be so awesome. Also anyone have MN State Medical insurance BCBS/Blue Plus? After reading some pre-surgical posts that I should call my insurance. So I will do that soon.

Welcome to LBT.

Good luck with lining everything up with your insurance.

I tried phentermine twice (not sure of the dosage) and would lose around 20-30 lbs, and then nothing. While it was working I was nervous and couldn't sleep, once the effects tapered off and I felt myself again, I was hungry and my weightloss stalled. It must work well for some people but not for me.

So after three months of Phentermine and increased side affects with weight gain my PCP has now referred me to the surgeon for WLS. I called my insurance and with regards to the usual 6 month pre-diet, I have already done three months with my PCP no results, the insurance said that the surgeon can put in pre-authorization with his request to bypass the 6 month pre-diet. I really have no idea what will happen since I have not even seen the surgeon yet, but I hope that I can get banded shortly after the first of the year or better yet right before the first of the year.

My question to all is how long did it take from date with surgeon till the date of surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
