Newbie - 10 days post op!

Hi everyone! My name is Jessica and I had my surgery on 10/13/09. I keep seeing all this talk about bandster hell and I guess I'm there. I'm starving! Protein Shakes and strained Soups really can get you down in the dumps when you're being bombarded by ads on tv, radio, and everywhere with all the yummy food I love so much. I've been on the liquid diet preop one week and until next tuesday. I have had a few things like some string cheese I chewed to death and some small chicken bites in my Soup and I regret it but you know what, I'm human and I've done so well so far so I'm not going to beat myself up over it. I'm 22 pounds down so far. I love that but it also disappoints me that I can't tell anywhere except my rings are a little loose but I just have to tell myself to slow my role and give it lots of time. A year out, I hope to be mostly to my goal of about 100 pounds out. I work full time, go to school part time, am married and have a beautiful 4 year old daughter and live in Texas. I'm a busy girl so having to really plan out my meals is really really hard. But hello everyone!

Hi Jessica - I understand how you are feeling! I was banded on the 19th, and the Soups and Jello are getting old FAST! I would love cottage cheese or oatmeal, but have to wait until I see my doctor on Wednesday.

Hang in there - I know this is a struggle, however, we did not come this far to not follow the rules!

I have been having broth as "breakfast", a protien shake for "lunch" and Soup for "dinner" - with lots of Water and crystal light in between. The water in between the meals fills me up, and while I am still HUNGRY, I know that I can keep on going until the next meal.

Just a couple more days until you see your doctor - you can do it!

22 pounds!! Good for you! That's remarkable! I had mine the 13th as well and i'm excited to have lost 7 pounds! but...i'm not as strong as you...i've cheated quite a bit. I'm allowed to start "soft" foods this Tuesday and started this week. I'm also eating ice cream...sooo bad. But I have been good on the drink front - i've stuck mostly to Water and haven't had my greatest weakness: fountain soda.

Keep up the amazing work! :blushing:

Thanks so much! I get to go to mushies tomorrow. I've been so excited. I had some mashed potatoes yesterday and was in heaven! Im on mushies for two weeks and then soft foods for two weeks and then hopefully I can eat normal. This learning how to eat good thing is taking a while!

Good job on giving up soda! Baby steps and you're doing it! DO you like sherbert icecream? You might try that if you're going to have icecream. Its not the same as vanilla or chocolate or that good stuff but its cold and sweet!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
