Port on starboard or port side?

Recommended Posts

Does it matter if the surgeon puts the port on the right side or the left side?

At an information session I attended, that surgeon said that he places the port on the right side of the body.

My surgeon will be putting the port on my left side. His reasoning is if there is ever an emergency medical situation which requires a center cut, the tube is not at risk of being cut which would cause further complications.

Any thoughts pros or cons?

I didn't know that it really matter. My surgeon put all of his patient's port on the left side.

l would guess that most of us have our ports located to our left sides. There are some in the middle. But I've only heard a couple of people say theirs is on the right.

Mine is on the left. There is one nurse at the surgeon's office who always comments, "Oh..the doctor usually puts them on the right." Strange.

Mine is in the middle about 2 inches below my bra line. Maybe it is just the Doctors preference?
