You know Cherie...

I tell my teenage daughter that I love my ex's... I just hate the way they ended...

Ex's are ex's for a reason... it doesn't mean I don't love them...in fact one of my ex's is coming into town this summer (should be making great progress with BuddyAide :rolleyes2: by then)... and he knows I will never get back together with him.. but we have found friendship for the sake of our son...and I really like it that way....

These relationships are so personal in nature.. only you can know if it is worth saving... or is it so valuable that you want to stay friends thus bringing the romantic part to the end.. or is there hope for the whole thing to turn around...

I feel blessed, absolutely blessed, that I am single and happy. I don't ever want to get married... but eventually I would love to find someone to date and travel with....I think there are lots of women like that these days... very independent and don't need someone.. but rather, wants someone...and that is powerful... very powerful...

I have embraced my pain.. I have embraced the steroids...and I will embrace the BuddyAide.. much like your Bofinger....

I think your time until your surgery is going to be awesome.. what a great event... if I could fast forward to the 26th for my surgery.. I would:):)

You have lots of friends on this site...can you imagine 6 months from now how many success stories we will see in the January Bandsters?

I am excited... I hope I can succeed.... I must say though... I feel like I may be the ONLY one that fails with the band... always have that fear... but I am going down fighting:):)

Also, be sure to take stuff with you.. I do cross stitch as a hobby and always have a project to travel with, just in case I have too much time on my hands.....

I also have the schooling of course.. I was sooo happy one of my research papers was finally returned to me after 4 tries... with a 95%.. whew... every paper I do know is worth a lot in the dissertation process... so everything is crticqued with a fine tooth comb...I should be reaching my goal for the LAP-BAND® and my graduation at the same time.. great synching I think...

What is your timeline for goals....? I set my first goal, then three others before the final goal...

258 start/253 current/240 surgery date hopefully/198 on 1 June/185 on 1 Aug/170 on 1 Oct/ 160 1 Dec - GOAL... so I am planning on 10 months 98 pounds... I think totally doable....

Just hang in there girl... keep the eye on the prize... and remember this is ALLLL for you and you get all the credit....

Jen

Hey Jen-

Re interim goal weights...I honestly hadn't even thought about it. I feel absolutely committed to doing my best, but beyond how fast I lose weight it really out of my control. I figure steroids plus extremely limited exercise plus up and down past weight plus being in my late forties equals sloooow weight loss. How much prednisone do you take daily? I'm at 12 mg daily now. I've been as low as 3 and as high as 30. How in the world do you "embrace your pain"? I'd really love to hear about that. I honestly don't know what will happen with my husband and me. Some days I'm ok and some days I freak. I know, for example, that I couldn't hold a "regular" job such as being a professor because there are too many times when I simply wouldn't have the energy to get to and teach my class. And I never know from day to day how the pain/stiffness/exhaustion is going to be. Like, lotsa days I can't hook my own bra. I did buy lots of novels to read before and after surgery, and I'll have my computer so hopefully I can get some writing done. I have found myself dealing with serious writer's block for the first time in my life. That may be the worst thing of all for me. Well, I'll be heading into the void before you, so I shall update you every step of the way! -- Cherie

I'm January 19th also, at Presbyterian Hosptial in Charlotte, NC at 7:30AM. Tomorrow I start the totally liquid pre-op diet. Strange how some doctors allow one meal a day and others are totally liquid proponents. Lucky me. LOL!

Marilyn -- my surgery is January 13 at CMC Mercy. Who is your surgeon???

I kind of like January On A Jouney. Wouldn't it be neat to gather a total weight loss for the group? How many 1000's do you think it would be?

Here is the continuing saga on my journey to surgery. I was supposed to go in the pre-admission testing on Thursday Dec 30 and then go see the surgeon that afternoon to determine if I could have the surgery because of my shingles.

I didn't sleep much the night before because of pain and just couldn't get out of bed on the 30th. I had to cancel the pre admission testing and the Dr's visit. So now I'm waiting for a call back to get me back on the schedule. I am now hoping for Jan 18. That is if the surgeon will do the surgery considering the complications . Wish me luck.

Today is the day. Surgery is set for 12:30. I am nervous. Doc requires his patients to stay overnight. so I won't be home till tomorrow afternoon.

Awesome suggestions!! Let's keep 'em coming. By the last week of January (most of us should be banded by then) I will create a poll and we can vote if you like! It'd be nice to keep a place for us on here so we can keep in touch and keep a cumulative account of our weight loss!!

I am SOOO excited everyone.. I am checking the forums every day now.. I know this will be great...

Don't forget to take "before" photos...as harsh as that will be, myself included,... you will feel so much better if you can "see" your success....

I know that I still feel like I will be the one that doesn't lose and that is why I am on the site every day... to change my mindset....

Good luck to anyone have surgery today...someone's life is changing right now...:smile2::)

Or JAN BAND JUBILEE (in which case we open for Carrie Underwood):smile2:

I like it--it has a good ring. We could combine to get the journey part:

Journey of the Jan Band or the Jan Band Journey?

Re: Name for January banders . . .

Lots of good ideas and certainly would make it easier to post in one place on this site, as I got to admit, I don't follow these threads that well :glare:...so this would be under the Social Groups category?

All of the names suggested would be good . . . how about "January Journeys" or should that Journies?

Also, since a few of us have the same date of Jan. 12, good idea to have that second layer of commonality.....whether it be twins, triplets, quads, or more!!!! :smile2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
