My surgery is set for January 4. I am on day 9 of the pre op diet. Today is probably the hardest day. I know Im not getting enough Water, where I work is so cold I have a hard time getting it down. I keep telling myself its worth it and there is not that much more to go...but still having a really hard day. ;)

Hello fellow JanBand's......

I have mine scheduled for January 26, 2010 and wish I could get it done today.....;)

I think this is going to be a great, lifelong, healthy tool... I think the first six months are going to be both the most exciting and the most difficult and the greatest rewards...

New eating, new weightloss, and then...........new clothes:)

I am shooting for about 70-80 pounds of loss....I plan to visit this site often the first year.... just because this is so new....

I go to my dietician appoint on January 8th.. my birthday, the big 40....

I know I am ready for this because I don't care about eating less.. I care that I can't get it done sooner.. like everyone.. lifelong battle that I want to conquer:):w00t:

I look forward to seeing everyone here....

Jennifer

Oh my goodness I started the pre-op liquid diet today and I'm fighting some serious head hunger someone just made popcorn here at work and I can smell it! I hope once I get in a good routine that this will get a little easier. I never realized all the things that triggered me to eat. Smell, boredom, being tired. I'm going to succeed and follow this diet to a T. Is anyone else on thier pre-op diet struggling?

My surgery date is Jan. 12 -- can I get an amen (lol). My doc does not require any pre-surgery diet except perhaps the day or night before surgery. Don't yet know what he requires after. Whatever he says, I'm in. Yes I'll be scared (hey, it's surgery) but I am so ready to do this. Would love, love, love to hear from any and all of you so we can fight the good fight together! One question I have is...many peeps seem to say that they had no restriction until they got their fills, which means you're just white knucking it after surgery until you get restriction? I did read one person who said she felt a loss of appetite right away. Any thoughts, knowledge, funny stories gratefully read...

I hope I get that loss of appetite too.. that is my demon as well.. not "what" I eat.. just "how much".....

I think starting before you get banded is the way to go.. I am doing it as of RIGHT NOW because I am getting motivated by this website... I want to lose ten pounds before my Jan 26 banding and that will just be less that I lose after... my goal by June 1, 2010 is 198....I think it is doable... I want to run my marathon again too..

I ran the marine corps marathon two years ago and a few others and a half.. but the Lupus and athritis has literally stopped me in my tracks... I know that this will help me get back on track.. I am hoping to do a half marathon when the weight is off.. right now.. hurts to run....

I think this will be a great place to keep the motivation...

Hi Jennifer - I have rheumatoid arthritis so your post really caught my eye. I take prednisone daily which I'm guessing will make it harder to lose weight. Plus my ability to exercise is very limited. Once my lap band incisions heals, I can do Water exercise, but that's it. I take lots of other drugs for my RA, too. Plus I take immunosuppressants which means I will heal more slowly and can get an infection more easily. Big fun! I am totally determined to do this and to do the very best I can no matter what. Just wondered if we have any of this in common. I never ran a marathon but I did used to be a dancer...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
