Am I doing something wrong?

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks post op and have only lost 5 lbs. I was told to expect to lose 2-4 lbs per week. However, I have read and heard so many others who have lost so much more. I don't have restriction yet, but I can't eat very much at all. I bet I don't take in 800 cals a day. I get in my Protein with 3 shakes a day plus eggs and cottage cheese. Not up to walking much yet. But do plan on exercise. Any advise?

You're doing exactly what you you need to do at this point. It sounds like you're following your doctors post-op diet to a T so that you will have well healed stomach. You'll should start seeing weight loss once you can start eating nutrient rich solid foods that tend to be lower in calories than slider foods. Also, more than likely, you'll start getting hungry, and that's when band fills become very important. Until you start feeling restriction, which could happen right away or after several fills, you may feel more like you're on a diet then like you had WLS. Once you start feeling restriction, your band will be your bff. Of course, as you mentioned, exercise will help speed up the process. I never expected to loose 2 to 4 lbs/week. Not that I would mind, but my goal was 1 to 2 lbs/week weight loss. I've had my ups and downs getting to good restriction, but now that I have it, I'm trending at 1.5 lbs/week.

Yeah, I really haven't felt any hunger yet. I get to start soft foods next week. I do feel restriction at this point. Have had some episodes of being too full a couple times that took about 2 hrs to disappear. Not fun. I have since learned to wait about one minute between bites of food and that has helped tremendously. I appreciate your input Kiz. How far out are you?

I got my band just over a year ago. I was generally losing a pound/week with little to no restriction, then I gained five pounds and then plateaued because I was eating between meals. My last/sweet spot fill was the first of August. It took me a few weeks to listen to my body that I wasn't hungry and nix the snacking. Now, that I'm back on track, I've lost 54 pounds and have 21 pounds to lose to get to my goal.

You are doing great Kiz. I will try to have more patience, and knowing there are others going through the same issues, is very helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Something else to consider is that you also may still be a little swollen since you are only 3 wks post op... I know that I was swollen ( on the inside of course.. LOL) for close to 3 or 4 wks... and when you are swollen, that sometimes will affect your weight too

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
