sweet spot - how do you know?

Recommended Posts

Had a fill today...........up to 4.8cc's in a 10 band.

Before this fill nothing had to diet, hoping this helps, she had me up to 5.2 cc's, but could not get Water down. so she kept unfilling to 4.8.

So question how can you tell your sweet spot?

Thanks,

Part of it depends on what you want your sweet spot to be. For me, I wanted to stay satisfied 3+ hours (I usually start getting hungry 4 Breakfast to lunch and 5 hours lunch to dinner) on the meal plan my doctor prescribed (3 1/2 cup solid meals plus one healthy snack), being able to eat most foods without fear of pb/slime/reflux, and to have that restriction stay long term. I had restriction along the way, but after two to four weeks it would fade. Looking back on it, I imagine the fade was due to losing fat around my stomach and the false sense of restriction due to swelling after a fill. I've been at my sweet spot for almost three months.

Hi! I am approx 7 months post op and have been at my "sweet spot" for about a month. Believe me you know... my doctor always tells me the goal is for you to NOT FEEL HUNGRY for 4-5 hours AFTER you eat. Right now that's exactly where I'm at. I eat Breakfast and don't look for food until 4-5 hours later for lunch- it's like clockwork. Then after I eat lunch- I don't eat again until 4-5 hours for dinner.

If I eat in between, lets say 2 hours after lunch- I try to eat a snack, I get full SUPER, SUPER fast-- which tells me my food from lunch is still there (in my stomach) and has not finished moving passed my band. I know then, that I have to wait a couple more hours before eating.

It's so amazing how it works! It really is "sweet!" lol...

I agree...it's as much a matter of choice as it is about fills. Read my blog (here on LBT) on reaching my sweet spot; Click HERE

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
