I got my first fill today 2cc. It hurt like hell. The Dr. told me 2 days liquid, 2 days mushy. 5th day normal. I get filled in two more months. How much pain was everyone in?

No pain at all either time I was filled. Didn't they numb you first?

I didn't get numbed. I laid on the table and did a half sit up and he poked the needle in. (3cc) I had to sit up and I still had this HUGE needle sticking straight out of my port. I had to drink Water and the first drink stayed half ways in my throat. He took out one cc and I could swallow all the water.

I'm very sorry to hear that your fill was painful. I have absolutely no pain, and the doctor uses no numbing. However, I accidentally discovered when I was scratching my stomach near that area that I'm numb right over the port. I asked the NP about it, and she said sometimes a nerve is cut, and it may or may not grow back. I hope to heck it never grows back.

Ask for numbing next time.

My doctor does my fills while I stand in front of the xray machine. I also have to drink barium while he fills me. First he gives me a shot for pain near my port then he sticks the fill needle in. I've never experienced pain.

I'm sorry it was so painful for you. Hopefully it will be easier next time.

I'm glad I read this post because mine is due November 4th! My port area is already sore and a bit swollen. This to me is unusual because it's been a month and a half and the pain was going away. Imagine when I have the fill how it's going to feel. *chewing nails*

Diana6303- same here- my doc has me lay on a table and I do a crunch and he pokes me- has me hold his arm and he helps me sit up and drink the Water while he pushes the Fluid in and out to see what is comfortable. No numbing medication, and no pain. I think you should try to relax before you go in for another and ask to be numbed if you are sensative to the injection. Good Luck!

No pain, no stabbing, just eases the needle in. No numbness either.

I think maybe I know why the port area is sore (just a guess). Lately I've been constipated and I was straining. I think maybe I'm baring down on that spot.

But that might be TMI!! lol I will definitely ask for numbing.

Thank you all for reassuring me. I have my forst fill on Nov 2nd and have been worried about it as I hate needles. Everyones ports seem to be in different places. Mine is onthe breastbone!

I have had 2 fills with no numbing and no pain. I'm not saying that some people may feel pain with a fill or it may hurt worse if the person doing the fill is not experienced enough, but.....

Just as getting a shot while at the dentist, if you walk in the door with a fear of needles and get yourself all worked up about it, the shot or fill will hurt more.

I was banded on March 4 and had my first fill April 17. I was very surprised in how much it hurt. When I came home I told my husband that I will try my hardest to lose weight and follow all the rules so I don't have to get another fill. Well I have been doing great and every time I have gone back to the dr they leave it up to me if I want a fill and I say "NO THANKS" They don't argue because every time I have lost 2-3 lbs a week. I feel I'm doing fine with only one fill, If I start to have trouble controlling my food, I will get another one. So far so good!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
