Well my parents are going out of town for my dad to race his mustang, and I have no friends that can take me home. So I was considering two options, driving myself home, or sleeping at the hospital until I can drive home.

I guess my question is, how long would I have to wait at the hospital before I could drive?

I know people are going to like freak out. But I have no options. I'm just not willing to postpone my surgery because of this.

can you have the hospital call you a cab.thats how i got home. good luck on your new journey in life. please do not cancel your surgery because of this. you don,t know how long it will take for your doctor to redo.

Um, it's not that simple, "home" is an hour and a half from the hospital. It's not just as easy as calling a cab.

Perhaps you can talk to your parents and explain just how important this surgery is to you and ask your dad to back out of his race.

My kids are ALWAYS my first priority.

you can hire a car to bring you home, or if your insurance will pay, you can go to a rehab center for several days after surgery until you are well enough to be home by yourself.

rent the limo thing like the ones used to take you to the airport. Just please don't drive yourself that is a long way. You don't want to have an accident.

You will not be able to drive home the same day- you will be lucky if you can see strait. You are going to be WAY too sleepy for one! PLUS all the pain meds they put you on, honestly you can't drive for SEVERAL days. The hospital may not even let you go if there isn't anyone to be with you. If you can't arrange to be picked up, I would reschedule. It isn't worth getting into an accident and really hurting yourself or even worse, someone else.

The hospital probably will let you stay if you don't have a ride but the bad thing is that your insurance won't pay for any days beyond what the doctor says is medically necessary. Do you have any friends who can do this for you. Don't be afraid to ask.

You caanot drive home as you will not be feeling well enough. I hired a car service. I live an hour and 10 mins away from where I had surgery.

you may want to contact your surgeons office and see what companies / resources they offer, I know some do. With my first office that I fired , they offered me transportation as a last ditch to keep me.

I used a car service there and back, 45minutes each way. And my insurance covered it!!!! Yours may too

No hospital will release you to your car. They simply will not allow it - you must be picked up by someone, even if it's a cab. If something happened to you on the way, the hospital woudl be responsible for letting you drive after an operation. And there is no way they would ever allow that to happen.

Look for Medical Transportation on Google in your area. Call the local car services. Call a well reviewed cab service. Trust me, you will not have as hard a time getting there and back as you think.

And the insurance - call them! You might luck out like me - they might cover the expense.

I live 1 1/2 hour drive from where I had surgery. I got a hotel room for that first night. The problem I see with your situation is that you are not supposed to be left alone for the first 24 hours. My husband was with me.

My clinic was very specific that I had to have someone with me or there would be no surgery. In fact, they aren't even allowed to leave the clinic. Probably in case something happens during the surgery.

As the other posts said - pls call your insurance and find out if they cover. and even if they dont, I know that ride home might be expensive but not as expensive as if something happened to you.

Man..i wish i lived closer..I would totally drive you.

Good luck

After reading and replying your post earlier this morning, I can't get you off my mind. I will apologize in advance for anything I say here that may offend you.

Do your parents know your surgery date? If so, what are they thinking by not going with you to be by your side for this surgery??!!!!! What are they thinking by not providing your transportation and staying with you after the surgery ? !!!! This is not the most major surgery you could ever have, but you will be under general anesthesia. It is not a simple surgery either. This is a big deal ! If my son (age 27) ever had surgery for anything, there is no question I would be there for him.

I just don't get it ! I have had 4 surgeries in my life, and for the first 3 it was very comforting to have my mother's voice be the first thing I heard when I came out of the anesthesia. The only reason she was not at this surgery is because she died. That is the only thing in the world that would have stopped her from being with me during surgery.

I think you should ask your parents to give you a ride to and from your surgery and look after you for at least the first 24 hours post-op. If they are not willing to do this, do you have a brother/sister/cousin?

Like Stacy1980, I wish I lived closer. I would gladly give you a ride.

I hope you work this out and hope I didn't offend you or hurt your feelings. I wish you the best on your journey.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
