Questions - new to the forum

Hi all

I'm new here and I've read some interesting and helpful posts, but not quite what I was wondering about.

1. What are PB's?

2. Where do you get those ticker tapes?

In discussion with my doctor, it seems that currently my fill is about right - a hard thing for me to be sure of since every day even some of the same foods seem to react differently. Some days things don't stay down, and I'm worried about my band slipping. If anyone has had it happen - do you feel it? Or how do you know?

Has anyone else found that the foods we should be eating tend not to go down as easily as the foods we should be avoiding. What a pain.

PB = Productive Burp. Once you experience one, you'll know. Basically, a bite of food gets stuck and doesn't traverse into the stomach. It could be too big a bite, you could have been eating too fast, or you might not have chewed as well as you should have. But it gets stuck, which hurts. Feels like pain under your sternum. DON'T try to wash it down with Water because that will just sit on top of the stuck food and make it more uncomfortable. If moving around, holding you arms over your head, or whatever works for you moving a stuck bite, you will start sliming -- that is, producing a lot of saliva to help lubricate the bite of food. And then it will either go on down or come back up.

It is NOT vomiting. There is no stomach acid in that bit of food. It never made it to your stomach. Afterwards, wait a few minutes and you should be able to continue eating.

The ticker is at www.tickerfactory.com Just follow the instructions.

Make sure you get all your Water in (64oz). Otherwise, your stomach can swell and make it more difficult to eat.

The thing I struggle with the most is eating too fast. If I slow down and take my time chewing I can get through a meal without a stuck episode.

Slider foods are those that have little or no nutritional value but are easy to eat such as chips, Cookies, popcorn, lettuce, etc.

I will tell you that I cannot eat eggs no matter how they are cooked and I cannot eat any kind of bread without getting stuck. But like I said, everyone is different.

I've actually found that a small sip of water when stuck will make me pb sooner and rid myself of the discomfort of being stuck sooner. It does seem to be impossible to wash something down when stuck. Everyone is different and needs to find what works for them.

To get a ticker you can go to Graphical Tickers and Trackers: Weight Loss, Trying To Conceive, Pregnancy... and follow the instructions.

Best of luck to you on your WL journey.

Donna

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
