Struggling with my protein, Please help me my wise friends!

Recommended Posts

Someone just turned me on to Muscle Milk Light Ready to Drink (chocolate). 100 calories, 15 g of Protein and 3 grams of fat. It's like drinking chocolate milk! I am developing an addiction already!

Good luck!!!

My daily Breakfast along with a skinny latte!

I guess I'm curious as to why it matters whether you eat or drink your Protein.

I generally drink a Protein Drink for Breakfast because I'm not a breakfast person but need to put something in me because I'm diabetic. Many days I'm too busy to stop and eat so I just drink another Protein drink...possibly two if I get hungry through the afternoon. All told that's 75gm of protein. Then I eat a regular dinner.

My doc didn't see a problem with me continuing to drink Protein drinks instead of meals but said if I start dropping weight faster than I want...or when I get to maintenance and don't want to lose anymore...I may have to bulk them up with something (milk, banana, etc.) to add calories.

liquid goes right through the band thus we get hungry faster and might end up eating more. However, many bandsters cannot eat solid food well early in the day after getting fills. I cannot eat solid food until about 2 in the afternoon. I always have a RTD muscle milk lite and a skinny latte with Protein powder added every morning.

I bought some Muscle Milk Lite (chocolate) a few days ago and I have to say I don't like it at all. It tastes more mocha than chocolate and as much as I like a good cup of coffee, I don't like mocha drinks.

Low carb Slim Fast tastes better than the Isopure dutch chocolate powder (in water) but I'll take the downgrade in taste (it's acceptable) for half the calories and 2x more Protein and drink the Isopure.< /p>

FYI, your body only absorbs 25 g of Protein at a time.

Also folks, I buy the EAS shakes and powder in bulk at Sam's. They're sugar free and only about 110 calories with about 20 g of Protein.< /p>

GNC Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60

3 scoops in 12 oz of Water =

280 Calories

7 carbs

1 gr fat

60 grams of protein.....you read right....60!

I'm on my 2nd week post op and I make one shake in the .

I just discovered the EAS powder at Sam's. The vanilla is only 110 calories but the chocolate is 130 and the protein in the chocolate is 23. Not substantially different enough for me to worry about since I dislike vanilla.< /p>

They do taste good though, don't they.

The pre-made EAS chocolate shakes are only 110 calories, 17g of Protein. The powder is more calories and Protein grams.

I love them, they're not dripping in sweetness. And why have vanilla when one can have chocolate ... mmmmm .. :smile2:

I could not get mine all in by eating it either so I gave in and I drink one Protein drink - I mix it with Water and no sugar added hot chocolate mix and drink it in the am on my way to work - replaces coffee and it is 30 grams of Protein (it is the vanilla lean mass builder from GNC) right off the bat to start the day - plus it tastes great :tongue_smilie:

The pre-made EAS chocolate is also GREAT - i love these as a back up and at Sams they are a good deal!

Not completely true - it depends on many things - when you last ate Protein, your metabolizm, and your general body make up - it can range anywhere from 20g -60g depending on the individual. Everyone is different and a one size fits all apporach is just not accurate.

Turkey burger patty.. 21 grams of Protein.

Fry one up in a little bit of olive oil, and put it on your plate with 1/2 cup of broccoli steamed fresh and soft.

go to this web site and under the products go to ground turkey. 93/7 fat.

Well, true, but I am thinking we're not 300 pound all muscle heavy weight body builders.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
