I think is should be a rare event. I got somewhat stuck a few weeks ago, but it was my fault. We were on the road, made a quick stop, and I tried to eat too fast. I've only been stuck (not pb'ing stuck, a little slime and tightness for a minute) a handful of times over the last year, and part of it was a learning curve with the band. I've only had one pb, and that was a few months after I was banded. I've been at my sweet spot for a little over a two months.

For me, the sweet spot is that I can eat the meal amount my doctor prescribes, good solid Proteins and veggies, and stay satisfied 4+ hours.

If you are at your sweet spot and are getting stuck regularly then you have a behavioral issue to address.

Modifying my eating behaviors has been really hard for me. I tend to eat too fast trying to keep up with my family at the table. I don't usually realize this until I start to feel stuck.

I find that after eating a few bites I get stuck because I have eaten too fast. This is called "first bite syndrome". It happens when you are really hungry and tend to rush your eating.

Slow down and rest between bites. Set your fork down if and wait a few minutes before the next bite.

I'm at my sweet spot, and have been stuck maybe once. It shouldn't be something that happens a lot, not good for your band.

I've been at my sweet spot for nearly 6 months and have had only 2 stuck episodes, both my fault.

I will say that I have never subscribed to the "chewing your food to oblivion" suggestion. Once I found my sweet spot, that allowed me to eat all foods I need (chicken, carrots, broccoli) I eat and chew like I always have.

That said, I ate chicken breast about a week ago, and ate WAY too fast to make a meeting and ended having it come back up. Prior to that it was a Triscuit.

IMO, you shouldn't have many stuck episodes at your sweet spot.

I was stuck last night for the first time in months and months. Totally behavior issue - didn't chew very well and kept eating after I was satisfied. Oops.

I've been having pb episodes a lot the last 3 days... mainly on solid Protein, like chicken and salmon... so I'm thinking I need to take smaller bites and slow down. I think I'm going to go to liquids for a few days though... The frustrating thing, is I've really been trying to eat slower and stop when I feel satisfied, and chew really well... it's just incredibly frustrating!!!

i have this too and when i've been stuck its cuz i went all day w/o eating and i was starving. They told me at my support group that I should take a bite and come back to eating in 20 mins to minimize this. But my problem is that I don't know what is what - this is a learning curve for me BUT every day my tightness is different its making me crazy !

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
