Ok, so doc says it's Ok that there is a hard area of swelling with a diameter of 6 friggin inches around my port. He said it was ok and it was normal and it would just be that way for a few weeks. But I have to complain b/c this didn't start until one week out and it's growing and growing and getting super hard and it hurts SO BAD. Did this happen to anyone else? I guess it's ok if my doc says it's ok - it's not red or infected looking - just painful and hard! I am 2 weeks out - when will this go away? Is this really normal b/c I'm having a hard time believing my doctor since I've never heard anyone else complain of this on LBT and I really beileve if you guys had felt the way I do and had a big hard pancake around your port, you would have posted on LBT.

It didn't happen to me, but I THINK I have read about someone having a hematoma, so I wonder if that is what yours is? I think I would go to the doctor and let him/her take a look. Don't mess around with your health, you know? Keep us posted, Cindy

I didn't have any pain with my original surgery.

I didn't have any pain with my port removal.

But when Lopez replaced my port and left me with a huge gaping hole, I was doubled over for weeks in pain. OUCH!

Laura - My port location is not hard but it was placed right at my waistband so after a full day of sitting and standing at work (having my pants bump my port on the way up - press against it while I'm sitting - and bump it on the way up) I am pretty sore. I hope that yours resolves itself and you feel better soon.

I am the one who was hospitalized for the huge hematoma after my first fill of the port. I had my second fill 2 weeks ago, and again, had a huge hard knot around the area of my port. The weird thing was this time it wasn't as painful as the first, and the knot grew more slowly and started 2 days after the fill. I think in some people, there are blood vessels that actually grow around or close to the surgical site after surgery as part of the body's healing process. I have come to the conclusion that this will be something I always have to deal with. I'm going to just plan and take it very easy after fills. As far as the hematoma's (blood clot) in the tissue resolving, my doc said there is nothing I can do except wait for the body to reabsorb the clot and take pain meds if it gets too uncomfortable. Hang in there! I know how you feel, but it will all be worth it in the end :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
