mlemlr 0 Posted October 20, 2009 Has anyone had to have their band replaced because of a defective band? I've been telling anyone who would listen for well over a year that the band wasn't working right. Dr kept taking me back month after month after month and putting more fill in. Said he didn't think there was a leak because he got pressure back when sticking the needle in the port (well the Fluid had to be going somewhere) said I was the problem not the band:unsure:FINALLY, I waited 6 months, I've gained back 12 of the 45lbs I lost, but this time when the needle went in NOTHING came out, totally empty. Leak test was done, couldn't find a leak. Now I'm told it has to be replaced, I'm not sure how I feel about this:frown:, what are my rights when its a defective band? Should I be concerned?:cursing: My Dr says it's good I'll get a whole new generation of band, and their much better.
Cleo's Mom 257 Posted October 20, 2009 My suggestion would be to get the serial number of the band you had put in and contact the company about this. You can get the serial number by contacting the hospital records department. If you do get it replaced, make sure to tell your doctor that you want the old one. After all, you paid for it. Make sure you are in contact with the company that made your band. But I don't think the band has a warranty. But it never hurts to make sure. If I were you, I wouldn't want to pay for a new band if you are self pay. If your insurance covers it, maybe they can intervene with the makers of the band on your behalf. Good luck. rcorn60035 0 Posted January 10, 2010 I'm curious how this has turned out for you. I had to have my band replaced in Dec 08 (first surgery was June 07). I haven't lost any weight since the replacement. Contemplating another type of surgery. Thank you.
mlemlr 0 Posted January 10, 2010 I had the defective band replaced 3 weeks ago. So far so good but it's still early. I remembered the first time it was slow going at first and I got discouraged but then it kicked in and I started loosing. I'm praying that this one will be the one, I won't go through this again for lap band or any other weight loss surgery! A Rep. from the lap band company was there for my surgery and he took the one that was removed with him and will send it to the company to have it checked. Everyone involved in this so far has been great. I'm keeping positive thoughts and trying hard to follow the diet.
