What do you eat in a typical day?

Recommended Posts

Those who are successful...what are you eating in a typical day? Do you EVER snack or eat something in between meals?

Does the "1 cup" rule mean that for the Protein and veggies combined?

I write down everything i eat...but busy days..life...i find that could could def be making better choices.

I am trying to combine Weight Watchers with my band. (when I did WW years ago, I pretty much ate anything and lost..as long as I stayed within my points)

Can that be the same for the band? Can I have a WW brownie?

I want to see what others are eating everyday...esp those who are very successful!

Thanks!

Hey... well im like 4 pounds shy of 100 pounds lost in 6 months.. i try to switch up what i eat daily.. but its hard todo that sometimes.. im very strict i really dont cheat and the little things i follow like no drinking with meal..

Breakfast - during the week when i get up early i do fatfree yogurt with some dry oat meal in it.. sometimes a slim fast shake if there is no yogurt.. and weekends if i get up on time i do 2 eggs.

Lunch- tuna salad (i always do reg mayo HATE fat free).. chicken salad.. sometimes i have cold cuts like turkey and eat like 6 slices of that and ill have some fruit with it maybe half a banana with a lil Peanut Butter or a small apple with Peanut Butter

dinner is like the exact same as lunch. ill do an omlet with like ham and cheese. or tuna. grilled chicken, chicken parm (no fat free stuff) and ill do some veggies or some fruit with that

for lunch and dinner i do like 6 oz of protien and a small portion on the Fiber (fruit and veggie)

i really dont snack at all.. i dont cheat. since my surgery 5 months ago the only bad thing i had was a tiny bit of ice cream. thats it. if you do need a snack i will do fruit. it solves my sweet cravings and it works for me. i dont crave anything really anymore. no bread (unless the chicken is breaded) no sweets no Snacks.

i hope this helps!

WOW Meagan 100 pounds in 6 months is phenominal! AMAZING is all I can say! Good for you!

I too am about 6 1/2 months out and have lost 71 pounds (17 pounds from goal), not as much, but I still look at it as above average. I on the other hand sometimes do cheat, BUT not often. I DO have realistic expectations- IF I cheat, I won't loose. On average I try to eat leass than 900 calories a day, with less than 60 grams of carbs and more than 70 grams of protien. If I cheat, typically it will be on the carb part, not the calorie part.

On a daily basis I eat the following:

Breakfast: 1 packet of weight control flavored oatmeal & 4 pieces of turkey bacon OR 1 4oz. fat free yogurt.

Luch: 1 lean cuisine under 220 calories OR 1 4oz can of tuna & 4 oz. frozen veggies.

Snack: low fat string cheese

Dinner: 4 oz. lean hamburger patty OR 2 low fat turkey hot dogs

Dessert: 1 4oz cup of lowfat Jello or pudding.

Excersizing... I do it 5x a week, religously. I run in increments for about 45 minutes. Interval training is GREAT for weightloss and it helps build stamina! However, at this time I do not do strength training, as I am waiting until I get to goal to do that.

Congrats on your choice to get banded- you will do wonderful!:cursing:

My eating varies a little from my weight loss phase and maintenance

BF - Yogurt (dannon lite & fit) w/lf granola - Weight Contorl or Kasha oatmeal - or eggs - or 4 oz of pt & fruit (this morning had 3 oz of ck and 1/2 pear)

lunch - salad with tuna - yogurt based dressing - One Pot Wonder (meat/veggies/thrown together with bell peppers onions jalapenos and tomatoe sauce) I may go out to eat once or twice a month - Mex (shrimp cocktail - 3/4 taco & beans) or Chineese (orange chicken - 1/4 c rice)

dinner - 4 or 5 oz pt (fish chick pork beef) veggies and usually always 1/2 c rice

Snacks (I save for evenings) 100 cal popcorn snack pack - sf pudding - sf fudgesicle - sf/lf yogurt.

I allow for treats - if it's someone's birthday I will have a piece of cake - I may buy a candy bar everynow and then (a candy bar - not a bag of if)

I was told to eat 3 meals and 2 healthy snacks..

I am a WW girl at heart and really eat this way - yes you can have a WW brownie - you just gotta fit what you eat into whatever your calorie budget is for the day..

We had a luncheon at work last friday - I had the guts of 2 street tacos (meat only carnasada) - chips/salsa - 1/2 piece of cake (I skipped the rice & Beans for the cake ;0)

I eat real food - I allow for treats - and I go to the gym 4 days a week -

I stay away from high fat foods - and limit my starches to a degree - usually just do protein/veggies/salads for bf & lunch..

This is a lifetime lifestyle change and you have to make it work for you and your life - your likes and dislikes.

I follow the band rules.. (no drinking - eat slowly - chew - low fat - limited sugar - eat off small plates)

I am down a little over 100lbs in about 8 months (below goal weight:thumbup:). I stick to counting calories more than portion size. I try to hover around 300-400 calories per meal (I have a forth meal on workout days) and often have a snack of popcorn/100cal snack pack/or nuts at the end of the night (usually end up with about 1500 calories per day (1800 on workout days)).

I drink right up until a meal, but am strict about no drinking during or up to hour after a meal. I almost never have any sort of sugary drink or liquid calories. I do still drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day (yes, with caffeine:ohmy:), but with no milk and only splenda for sweetener. I’m not purposely trying to avoid carbs, but I find that my carb intake is very low.

I do have an occasional splurge day where I will allow myself to have a high calorie meal or a treat for desert, but I always follow up the next day with strict calorie control and a little extra time in the gym. My philosophy is it’s ok to slip from time to time, but don’t let yourself fall. I work out religiously 4-5 days a week (I actually look forward to it) with a little cardio but mostly weights because I am focusing on reducing my body fat rather than actual weight loss.

Nellie

How's your restriction - Really I have always count calories - during my weight loss phase - 800 to 1200 and varied them and hit the gyym 5 days a week..

Are you keeping a food log - are you exerciseing - what are you eating -

I know quite a few banders do count calories - I know some don't - but as fat pple we don't know the amount of calories that we consume in a day - it's a learning tool imho - I kept a food diary for 1 yr - once I hit goal - I quit - but I still keep a mental note of the quanity- quality and # of calories i consume today.. Along with hitting the gym 2 x a week for weight training and 2 x for cardio..

I agree...all of this is extremely helpful. I am about 3 1/2 months out from my surgery and I havent lost more than 3 lbs in the last 8wks and I am getting discouraged. I have had 2 fills. Both resulting in very little restriction, though I have seen slight changes when eating certain types of food or if I eat too quickly. Minus a treat here and there, I am pretty good with what I eat. I just cant get over this hump!

I slowed down on exercise due to vacation and being sick but am starting to pick back up. I am a very picky eater, so variety has been a problem for me. I have been eating high Protein, low carb, low sugar meals and I dont know what else to do. I am still using Protein Shakes to supoplement my Protein intake and consume approx. 80gr of protein a day, usually never exceeding 1500-1800 calories. i have found that calorie counting has been extremely helpful. Does anyone have any other tips?

I think your calories are too high - during my weight loss phase I kept my calories between 800-1200 and varied them daily - My starting weight was 250... I kept them like this during my whole weight loss phase - some weeks lost 1/2 lbs some weeks lost 2 or 3 lbs - but those all added up and lost 105 in a year to give me a normal bmi..

Again I exercised 4-5 times a week - 1st 8 months treadmill only - then started weights in March 08 and now do weights 2 x a week and cardio 1 or 2 times a week..

The more muscle you have the more calories you burn by just being..

Try lowering your calories and upping the exercise and get another fill

Good Luck

Well like you said everyone is different but you do need to make better choices and eat healthy. I don't know about going that low with calories under 900 calories puts your body in starvatio mode. But if it is working for you then go for it.

The gentleman that lost eating more calories is absolutely normal.. he's a man and working out to gain more muscle so he can eat more.

Just try different things and you'll find the balance that works for you.

:(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
